I know it is a little pre-mature, but I have a cousin who is getting shipped out to Afganistan in March and I want to take him fishing for a couple of days in Feb. He is a Black Hawk crew chief from Kansas. I have done the Fork thing and I know that it is hit or miss that time of year. I am looking for opinions on which lake would be a good bet in mid Feb to put him on some good size largemouth bass. I plan on hiring a guide for a couple of days so any guide recomendations would be appreciated as well. I used to fish Fork with Jimmy Everett, but he has moved on to bigger better things. I appreciate your help.

Amistad and/or Falcon would be my choice if I were in Georgetown and could get there.

well, I would have to agree on the south texas lakes at that time(since you mentioned you had already done the FORK thing). Choke Canyon, Amistad, or Falcon.

I would go to Falcon and fish with Charlie Haralson, hands down. His number is 956-744-6235. I booked some fall trips with him a couple weeks ago and he still had lots of dates open in February. I'd try and book this trip before I considered any other locations. Its not uncommon for him to have 35-40 pounds as his best five on any given day. A 50 pound stringer is a legitimate possibility that time of year.

I appreciate everyones feedback. I guess that I need to get a move on with hiring a guide because they are already filling up for Feb. If any one else has any recomendations I would aprpeciate them. Thanks.

You can not go wrong with Rayburn or if you want to go out of the way Lake O the Pines in mid to late February can be great. Try Lynn Atkinson out of Jackson Hill on Rayburn.
