Didn't see the Koi today.

About 2 minutes after I set up I had a screaming run, which surprised me because other than the 2 Koi there are no carp here.

I grabbed the rod and was kind of shocked at how hard whatever I had was running.

Well, this is what it was.





No idea on the weight, but biggest I have caught.

Based on the size of your shoe, I'd say the catfish was 15 to 18 pounds.

Sometimes catfish pull really hard. A year or two ago I caught a couple 6-pound channels from a tiny neighborhood pond that pulled as hard as similarly sized carp on the initial runs.

Yeah I've found that bigger channels fight totally different than little channels. There isn't so much of that jerking back and forth and barrel rolling at the top. Instead they fight much like a carp IMO. I caught an 8lb. channel at Reading a few months back, and until I saw the fish I was convinced it was a 10lb. carp.
