I have 135,000 on my 5.9L diesel and my automatic transmition has started slipping all the way through 2nd gear. Is it time for a rebuild or something else i could try?

i aint sure what automatics they use with cummins engines, but if its a chrysler tranny you should either rebuild(not just to stock specs.) or trash and get an allison.

Dont go to chrysler to have it fixed. U need to contact http://www.dieseltrans.com/dodge/transmission_components.htm and ask them for the closet dealer to u. I belive he is right north of denton. James nothern or somthing like that. U wont ever have a problem. Ur clutches are shot. chrylser reman wont last. Money better spent on an aftermarket one.

dont know where you live but i weatherford there is a shop called texas diesel power if you can head out here talk to john and he will tell you what is best and do good work

As time goes by that slipping will get bad enough the truck will barely move. Right now you are losing power and mpg w/ that convertor. I work for Cummins, and my service truck and personal truck both require a new converter every 80k miles and a trans rebuild at about 120k miles. The trans are the weak spot. It is best to go to a reputable diesel shop that does transmissions. Have them install an aftermarket torque converter. The $$$ you save will allow you to upgrade the trans to the point it will never blow again.

more torque than stock can handle,had john at texas deisel put in bd convertor ,valve body and flex plate never a minutes problem! i'm not stock or gentle on it either ! give him a call you might not like what he tells you but it will be the truth!!! 817-594-9909

86k and my torque just failed. the pump drive stub shaft broke. all the disc looked ok nothing burned up. it will cost me about 750 to repair. That's doing it my self. You would think they would last longer than that.

i have an 04 3500 dodge/cummins that just rolled over 100k miles and i drive it pretty hard. The only problem i've had is the a/c and one hell of a cracked dash. the dash in my '03 cracked also....sucks

if your slipping in second you need a rebuild i will cost you abit. but you can get a ats performance trans for a little bit more money and it will last forever and will also support power addons to your engine with out tearing the trans up like a stock tranny. i would go ats with a ats torque converter you will have less problems and more towing power better shifts and higher torque converter lockup.

I had the same prob in my 05' 2500 @ about 120,000 for 75.00 I took it to a local tranny shop and had the fluid and filter changed and bands adjusted now it works great.

does the 2500 have the same tranny as the one ton i use one that has over 200000 miles on it an he has had no trouble with it (nock on wood)and it is usaly has a load on or behind it
