What year did they stop using freon...I have 1999 ford f150...not sure if it has freon or the 134 stuff....

You should have a sticker up near the fan or on the bottom of the hood that specifies the refrigerant.

freon is a trade name for R12

Actually Freon is a trade name from DuPont the proper term is refrigerant. Anything from the original cleaning fluid Willis Carrier used to develope the first water chiller to anhydrious amonia used in industrial refrigeration to R12, R22, HFC134a is considered refrigerants. Your 99 f150 will have HFC134a. You can look at the service ports and tell the difference on all of the late model automotive 134a systems has a quick connect type fitting and the cap threads onto the outer shank. The older automotive systems that used R12 have the 1/4" flare with schrader needle valve at that point look for tags or stickers that refer to this system being converted to HFC134a. If I remember they were Red/black writing with yellow background. It's been awhile since I had a converted vehicle.
