Fishing area below dam was closed yesterday. Not sure why. It was gated off and had a do not enter sign up.

Hi, I'm new to these boards. I called the lake headquarters and found that there was damage from the recent storms and the spillway is closed until they can repair it. They are going to attempt tomorrow, but can not if it is raining.

Awesome!

Wonder if they release, would the hybrids run up to the dam?

Sorry, I didnt mean the dam was releasing water I meant the fishing area was open. Nothing was biting. I havent had much luck at that spot, some small channel cat and perch.

I think with the zebra mollusks, barring the danger of breaching flood pool, they will probably not release water at Lavon. =(

still not enough power... means no fishies.. wait til they open 12 gates... we will get some hybrid action immediately... the hybrid are still in there... they also released over 500,000 striper like 3-4 years ago... they have grown alot on the main lake... caught acouple this year during the run... none were keepers.. but they are getting around 12 inches... cant wait til they reach legal size!!!!

I was there this afternoon. There were a lot of people there. I talked to a guy named Shane (I think, horrible with names) who said they werent really biting yet. I was there for about 10 minutes and none of the 30 poles were getting hit.

I tossed my cast net for shad a couple times and hauled out at least 50 a throw. Grabbed a load of them, offered some to some people arriving, then headed to the abandoned boat ramp where the wind was really blowing. Caught a few fat channel cats around 18-20 inches. Heading back out as soon as my wife gets back.

Was out there monday and yesterday. not many fish being caught yet. Saw some whites being caught but mainly dinks. Only a few were good enough to keep. 5 gates open right now but no action.

Hey Angler Josh, I just PM'd you..

I was there this morning. The wall was more crowded than I liked so I headed down to the creek. Shad were jumping like crazy there.

Got hung up a lot but did catch a 26 inch 12lb flathead

Another gent was fishing the creek for crappie, but wasn't having much luck

I think they're closed because Ray Hubbard is over pool again.
As soon as Ray Hubbard gets back close to normal pool Lavon will probably start sending water out again.

Looks like they closed them up again and the lake is still 3' feet up with water still gushing in. I believe one of the streams feeding in is still 9 feet above flood stage. It's gonna keep filling up!

one of my other guide buddies said ray hubbard is to full even with all the gates on. they cant release water fro lavon, till hubbard is lower.... if thats true, they will leave the gates on for more than three weeks with all the water in lavon..... and yes, more rain to come.....

-the longer the gates are open and the more gates they have open at lavon dam, means more sandies and hybrids will show up within 2 weeks of them being open, in numbers. nd of course its perfect weather for the crappie to wake up in the river and they will move to coves and small pockets with slack water....

They can only do so much to keep up with Hubbard, don't want to flood everyone in between.

Sure would be nice if the rain would quit but so far I believe the Farmers Almanac is right about this winter gonna be an abnormally wet and cold one...

There were 10 gates open an hour ago when I was down there. There were 20 people fishing side by side, when I got there, close to 30 when I left 20 minutes later.

was at lavon dam earliar... was pretty packed after the rain fall... saw some nice sandies caught and some good crappie....a few drum and thats it... 10 gates are open.. should stay on 24/7 for 2 weeks straight... not a bad day for some... should be packed here on the weekend... i really dislike people who fish out there and think they own the lake lol... i straighten them out really nice...

-please be courteous to other fisherman and children thanks!
-lets pickup after ourselfs... trying to keep this place clean... so far better than last run..!!!

I guess I'll be putting in a little farther back again. Im not to fond of crowds when sharp objects are being whipped around.

Since Im pretty new to all this, maybe someone could tell me how far back from the gates I can go and still have a good chance of pulling out a decent sized catch. I know the crappie spot farther back, but what about flatheads or stripers if I wanted to have a go at them?

the flatties should start to bite in a few days,,,, hybrids a week or two if all 10 gates stay on..... sandies are always in there. they just dont leave when the gates turn off due to they dont jump over the dam at 78 when the water stops..... as soon as the gates turn on you can see shad along the wall 2 minutes after the gates open..... there is a ton of bait in there to sustain everything till the next release.....

and SONFISH: I OWN THE DAM! - so when i show up, yall have to understand something, you must leave the area immediately, you are tresspassing on my property......

I went down stream from 78 today due to the crowd and tore the crappie up. i used minnows this time. caught well over 100 between the 2 of us in the fish cats.... marked soe huge fish on the graph, had to be gar.... but the shad were so thick, my graph said it was 2 ft when i was in 14 ft of water!

Was at the Dam early Monday morning in the rain and while damfisherman caught a 25lb flat head I caught a 102 fever. It was worth it however cause I got to see and learn a few things on how to catch these monsters from the infamous Damfisherman. If y'all ever get a chance to meet him he is one cool and tall dude.

I was there this morning from 11P to 5A. Lots of folks there when I arrived, some decent channel cats being caught and some crappie too. Folks complained about not finding any shad so I went down a ways trekkin through the grass and threw my net three times. Pulled out 50 or so shad, cleaned the cockleburrs out of the net and then headed back to share the bait since I wouldnt use that much bait by myself. Found that the folks I was talking to had left and the ones still there didnt seem very receptive to me being there so I set up on the bank just on the other side of the railroad bridge. Bite was slow, and I need some of those no-roll sinkers.

Lol last year one guy was like that. He almost got bruce lee kicked off the wall. Dude was talking smack to me for 20mins. I held it in until I couldn't hold it no more. He was complaing that I kept snagging his line. Well shiet that wouldn't happen if he casted it towards the dam not downstream. I walked all the way to the top and confronted him. Dude got scared and took off lol

Id rather just find a spot where I dont have to worry about it, but if I did get snagged.. yeah go ahead and cut it. I was probably just going to get it hung up and have to cut it anyway.

I pretty much expect to lose my entire rig every cast, that way when I manage to get it back, I'm happy.. and when I manage to get it back with a fish attached, I'm thrilled.

hahha. the only issue is that if you throw your 1inch punch, you will be 2 inches short from actually hitting him. why not just pee in his mouth

i am going to hit the Dam around 6:45-7pm tonight..anyone want to help a brother out? I am a novice at the dam fishing...figure i'd try crawfish tails under a bobber and let it drift W/ the current. It that doesnt work i'll try a Mann's Little George...P.m. me if anyone can help me land some hybrids tonight..

I wouldn't fish a bobber and let it drift down. That would piss off lots of people

I mean most of the people there are doing something illegal, like no fishing license or keeping undersized fish. Some people will keep everything they catch, i mean what are they going to do with a 6 inch channel cat?

1 6inch cat = 1 mini fish stick . so 200 6inch cats = fishstick buffet. lol

hahahahaha, i guess the meat is more tender on the little ones but to filet 200 six inch channel cats would require a lot of patients.

My brother and i where at the dam on Sunday morning/afternoon. We both caught our limits on sandbass and went home to clean them. I've never cleaned any kind of fish before, but after cleaning my half, i can tell you it takes more time than you think. (or maybe i just suck at making fillets out of them.) Notes about the damm. Be prepared for other fishermen to get tangled with your line and vice versa. If that's not something you can handle don't even bother. We caught 99% of the fish on jig heads (charteuse). If any of the nearest gates are open, you should do very well. Just cast out about 1 ft from the current and you should immediately feel them biting. But don't let the current take your bait/lure for a ride because you will miss out. They were also biting pretty good near the wall.

P.S. A 3 inch leader with a 3way swivel attached to a bobber with weight was used.

On a side note, i wish the Game Warden would have shown up. There was a guy that was making me nervous. He was walking/standing on the railing!!! He could have fallen off the edge into the water and gotten hurt or even drowned. Another guy that was there warned him to get down because he would have been in some trouble if the Warden saw him. Regardless, that was just plain stupid and careless.

+1

On the road that connects the dam road and 78 and theres a little pulloff there that you can access the river. Will probably be empty of other people if you want to float a bobber in the current.

Why would you want to go out in a canoe in that current anyways. That's just asking for it.

whats BS is, is ---->the gates being off when i got there last night...pissed me off pretty good. i was the only one there for awhile, till angler_josh showed up to go carping, and i still had the whole pier to myself. ... decided to try for the crappie anyways... caught about 15 with 4 being keepers. picked up a couple dozen channel cats to 3 pounds. then about 6 am the sandies started hitting the surface. only lasted about an hour and they went deep. started picking them up on slabs, spoons, and jigs deep. we dragged the slabs, with an occational jerk.... but mostly were picking it up off the bottom. caught well over 50 and left with 14 nice keeper sandies. -----then they opened a gate and the water murked up.... gave me a reason to finally go home and sleep.

I will NEVER understand why some people do these things... I could see an 18 year old, who was drinking, maybe; but a grown man, in a canoe? At least go out in a inner tube with a life preserver and a rope.

I was out there from 7-9:30 yesterday 11/4 and was just killing them. None of the gates were open until about 9, they opened up one gate. I would say i caught just about one fish every cast, only ended up with 3 keepers though. Hopefully the bigger fish and hybrids will be in sometime next week! I think im heading out there this afternoon around 2 or so

sheepheads (aka: freshwater drum) are not bad luck, and i prefer them over sandbass and stripers any day. their meat tastes a lot better.... i catch them every time i fish at the dam.... and i catch fish everywhere i go..... so no bad luck...?

I was there 11/07/09 in the morning and saw a couple of people landing some pretty nice buffalos. I was up in the top, but didn't have a good spot. One of the guys there had a line straight accross that didn't permitt me to cast toward the wall or the gates. Ended up leaving frustrated because of this.

fished from 5 am till 11. crappie were not cooperating today. only took 4. caught 2 hybrids, but they were throw backs.... almost kept the smaller one. thought it was a sandie at first till i took a second look. it was 13 inches and looked almost like a perfect sandie. one line was broken but had the hybrid tooth patch.... Now the sandies however, were killer! pretty much every cast.... lot of magnums in the bunch as well.... out of the 20 - 30 people there, about 6 got their limits as well. everyone was pretty nice today. no fights or yelling at anyone.... good day to hit the water! Michael, to bad you have to go back to reality and go back to work....

got two within 30 seconds of each other. Had a few beers in me as you can tell....

I use a coke bottle spooled with 50lb mono test and throw out 1/8 crappie jigs.

Action can't get no lighter than that.

hey cajun. the most popular bait is a basic jig. you could probally use anything in your tackle box and catch fish. caught my limit today in less than 2 hours with many throw backs. if you like to catch alot of sandbass then get down there. didnt see many crappie today or hybrids. i did manage to land 2 big buffalo on my ultra light tackle with 4lb test.

If ur just fishing to fish and not keep then its good. If ur fishing to eat, then maybe its not as good because ur probably looking for size or other fish after u limit out. I dont mind either way, its all good!!

Ive only seen one guy catch a hybrid off the wall bottom fishing with minnows. It was about 18 and a half inches (i know cause the guy next to me measured it). They gotta be on that other side of the dam where theres more current. Seen a boat on the far side of the dam but didnt stay long enough to see him catch anythin.

It really doesn't matter. They will shut the gates down today or tomm. The water has almost been vacated. only a little over 6 inches left to release. That will happen today or tomm. Should be no release by Sat.

awesome iluvfishin. I havent seen any caught during the day. was down there again this morning. they have shut down all but two gates. the fishing was really slow compared to the past few days. i would guess that the crappie fishing will pick up but they will probally shut down the other two soon. i sure would have liked to catch me some hybrids.

Can anyone here explain the logic in draining the lake this quick? I mean from 6500 cfs to 0 cfs.... a week ago the lake was 4 ft over! In may they ran 800 cfs for a couple of weeks!

Went down and fished here after work yesterday...it seemed that every whitebass I caught had been previously chewed on by something??? My buddy caught a crappie with the same phenomena...could there really be that many flatheads down there? or is it something else?

In my short time at the dam I have seen way too many small fish go on the stringer. Leave some to grow up for the kids. Yay, game wardens!

they are everywhere in the river. i caught fish all the way to 78. my main thing was graphing the bottom for when they close the gates. that way i can find them. most of the river is 7-9 ft on average, but i found a spot where it drops to 16 ft with humps and trees. so thats where everything will be sitting in the winter time....the fish are not going to just jump over the small dam at 78. there is plenty of food in there for them.. spinners(silver) and black/chart jigs.

Sonfish - were you at the dam yesterday evening. I got there around 4:30pm and a buddy of mine told me you were up there.
Were you the one got on white t-shirt and a long black swayed pant throwing a 7 foot pole with red & white cork?

I was just wondering, that is all.

here is what i have been doing.... slip a 1/4 oz egg weight one. tie a swivel on next. 20 lb leader next. then a silver or white rooster tail. let it hit the bottom and start cranking. the bigger fish are deeper usually..... that's how i have been taking home limits at the dam from the bank. crappie have moved out deeper it appears..... i caught some slabs though, in the brush near the bank, that is barley underwater. jig the brush like you are jigging for the spawners in march/april

Thanks Tarpon for the advice I may have to do that. Are you fishing down past the spillway near the 78 bridge or are you able to wade the rocks and what not and fish right below the dam?

the water has gotten real murky after todays rain off of 78.caught a couple there yesterday. you can catch fish anywhere below the dam. plenty of room out there today.

all the fish at the dam are going to be stuck in there after the water recedes. the dam at 78 will block them. so they will be in there till the next big rain. with one gate open the water dropped about 3ft almost (compared to 2 gates open). fish just went a bit deeper. get it down with the extra weight. crappie will most likely go down stream to the holes i found. one was 17 ft dropping off from 9 ft. very fishy looking. saw some big fish on the graph down there.

but while the gate is still on, the sandies will be right in front of it picking off disoriented shad. fish from the creek to the dam. when the sun gets up a bit, they tend to go deeper (the bigger ones)

They can live in pure fresh water if the right elements are present...my parents have a golf course across the street that backs up to a lagoon and all the ponds are filled with five to thirty pound poons that are perfect on a seven weight and small whistler fly...funny watching them roll in the lily pads and hydrila mat.

Yeterday was a bit slower for me...we picked up a few crappie and sandies on minnows and panfish assasins then around 5'ish there was a brief hour or so of topwater action with sandies....I wish 20 people woudnt crowd your area and stand 5 feet from you literally when they see you catching...on top of that they are throwng crappie jigs on 30 lb test...c'mon they are pretty much everywhere below that dam... soap...oh well thats Dam fisin' I guess

I seem to catch more after dark on jigs and minnows, but I don't target them really. I don't know much about crappie to tell ya the truth.

The hybrids are scarce out there....
You'll run into a few, but they'll be undersized or barely legal.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for all the good information in this thread. Just came home to DFW area after a 5-year absence to celebrate Thanksgiving with the parents and sibs. Been shore fishing Lake Michigan the past year and wanted to come back and take dad, brother and future brother-in-law out for some fishing (none have ever really fished before). Was planning on purchasing fishing licenses online (looks like there's a $5 surcharge per license though), but since I'm planning on hitting Academy, Walmart, Bass Pro and Cabela's (my favorite store), might just purchase the licenses there and pickup a regulations book (it's nice that all that info's available online though). Will need to get them all gear, as well as buy tackle and a rod for myself (traveling light but I brought my reels); I'll just leave the stuff behind, and hope I've started a new hobby for the family (Dad really needs to get out).

Anyways, I've been trying to sort out where ya'll fish with the assistance of Google maps. I think I can see the dam. I sort of understand what ya'll have been saying about gates being open and cfs "current" being generated. I can find the 78 bridge and sorta see the "creek?" that flows beneath the dam. Was wondering where exactly people can park to fish the area between 78 bridge and the dam. Do ya'll fish from the bank or off the bridge (is that even legal)? Or is that why a lot fish at night (aside from the fish being active)?

A non-resident (unfortunately that's me now) license seems to be the way to go even if I only have a few days (at maximum) to fish; Buying non-resident day passes seems overly expensive. Hopefully I'll get to come back more often and will be able to use the non-resident pass more. If anything, at least I'll be supporting the state DNR.

Any tips ya'll can pass my way, I'd appreciate it. While fishing Lake Michigan for yellow lake perch we'd use artificials on tandem jigs - anybody do something similar to that? Reading one of Carey's posts reminds me of the way they fish in HI for sardines (w/ the egg sinker, swivel, leader and hook/bait).

Well, thanks again, and I'm hoping to plan a nice outing for them and maybe add a few more anglers to the family.

Jay

What bridge are you talking about? That railed walkway on the right of my picture? The one that takes you to the "wall?" So, do you just make your way down the bank on the far right then? Past the railroad bridge? (Fish south of the railroad bridge off from the shore?)

Well, I only made it to Cabela's today and lost track of time (easily done there). Picked up some ultralight combo packages, some jigs, braid, 20lb mono for leaders, plastics and the license - $54 for the license, not too bad.

There are some pretty good deals on tackle, as well as rod/reel combos right now. For those saltwater enthusiasts, the tackle doesn't seem to be really popular here (prob due to the lack of saltwater), so there are a lot of heavily discounted items including biodegradable artificials for saltwater.

went out there last night around 10pm-12. Only saw 1 other fisherman on the bridge. Buddy of mine only caught 1 small channel cat. It was pretty damn cold and windy. 4 flood gates were barley open. Water level was low.

Going to Galveston this weekend.

Went yesterday 8-11 and ate skunk. Clearly ultralight rig was not the way to go- successful fisherman were using surf rods and this huge bobber setup; SE Asian crew were pros at catching sandies.

Came back this AM 7-1030 with bigger rods and reels, but evidently still not the way to go - gotta throw surfrods and big bobbers I spose.. SE Asian crew rocked the sandies w/ 2/3 buckets by the time they closed the closer gate; Sandies pretty much turned off. One guy at the end closest to the dam was still catching one here and there on minnows on crappie rigs. Didn't see anyone else really catching down the bank - saw one channel cat and one sandy caught by people dunking minnows.

You don't need a surf rod and weighted cork to catch the sandbass there.

I agree on the LOL...all you need as a baitcast reel and some rooster tails and its game on at the Dam! you do need to get some distance out there to dominate..

Good to see Krazyfish yesterday. Guys, I've known Neil for a long time. Always good to see ya man!! May be down there again friday. The 2 gates open in the middle of the dam makes it a devil to kick across. But, I found that little sweet spot and would have gad a limit if I had gotten there earlier.

I agree - it ain't finesse fishing, but the SE Asian crews using their giant bobbers and surf rods were the only ones taking home limits. Everybody else either ate skunk or caught 1-2, fishing for hours on end. They're professionals in catching sandies cause they get it done, morning after morning despite whatever conditions/gates open while everybody else is leaving empty-handed. Not professional in the way people finesse fish, and I tend to consider those individuals anglers vs fisherman. Those guys are clearly fisherman. I'd assumed if it were legal, they'd be out there getting the job done with a cast net.

Anyways, it was fun although I ate skunk 3 days in a row. I'm tempted to come back with a big-[censored] surf rod and bobber combo just to get some action. There were two fellas there this AM that were actually chucking their rigs out PAST the two open gates in the middle and fishing a sweet spot right at the end of the current practically on the other bank side - THAT was impressive, if solely due to their accuracy in aim.

Well, happy Thanksgiving fellas, and hope to do more fishing in Texas in the future. I'll be getting my ice fishing gear ready for this season (also another first for me).

Tight lines,

Jay

In Hawaii, I was able to catch 2-inch Honolulu sardines with a surf rod and then subsequently a bass rod - as were all the fishermen on the bank.

As an aside, I was thinking though, through this whole 3 days there was one SE Asian guy who was REALLY consistent with his catching using the surf rod/big bobber combo; Others were using the same rig, but he always had better hooksets. I think the example of minnow & bass rod may, in a way, be apt, b/c I think it'd probably be pretty hard to feel a sandbass biting on that getup; There's got to be some skill in feeling that "nibble" and getting a good hookset. I bet it's not ALL that easy, especially when fishing's slow. That getup's more about getting the hookset, not necessarily "fighting" the fish on light line/rod. Sandies seem to be similar to Lake Michigan lake perch - not much fight at all. Anyways, just some observations. I don't think that getup's all THAT easy, but it certainly IS a way to get your rig out far enough.

Forgot to give a report. Well, since only two gates were open in the middle it was the slowest day fishing. Even the SE Asian crew didn't do so hot - single digit fish, aside from that one consistent fellow who had at least a half-bucket before they left. Guys fishing the right-hand end of the "bank?" casting past the current had single digit, but nice-sized sandies. Guys fishing the creek mouth down below seemed to be picking up some nice single digit numbers as well. Didn't see any other type of fish caught.

Looks like you'll have to pray for rain and hope they'll open up a nearer gate before fishing improves. Heard from some newbies that Texoma (although slow) was still better than Lavon today.

I got 6oz and 8oz modified cork for sale if anyone interested. thumb
You can chunk these babies against the 50mph winds and it would not tumble. You can chunk a mile with an ugly stick.

I don't know about you guys with surf rods and big cork combo catching sandies at Lavon Dam. I use a Walmart float with a 7' rod and manage to catch all the sandies I wants. Not to mention crappies too ........... !
Seem to me it is just too much work for sandies with surf rod. Now if there are big mama hybrids mixed with them sandies like a few years back, I would bring out my surf rod and cork combo too.

I guest do whatever you feel it would work ........!

Oh I saw an oldman caught a minnow with a chopstick ... or was it fly ... too much kunfu movies in the head ... hahahaha

I was there at daylite this morning and left with 20 SLABS. I didn't keep anything this morning that wasn't obvious. CAught a bunch. Then they shut one of the 2 gates that were open and it slowed down. Left at noon. Wanted to watch some football.

I just don't understand it. I think licenses are inexpensive for residents in Texas; Maybe not as cheap as IL ($13), but pretty dang cheap compared to places like Wisconsin and Michigan or even Washington state. The minimum fine listed in the regulations book is $50 AND they can confiscate your equipment; The minimum fine in itself pays for an all-water year-from-date-of-issue fishing license with $3 to spare. I'd just assumed most of those guys had licenses considering their gear wasn't too cheap, and even one of those guys (at least on the concrete bank) was using a Shimano Stradic reel on his surf rod/bobber getup. That's a pricey reel (I think only 1 grade down from a Stella).

Kudos to Texas game wardens for doing a bang-up job.

Was that you I was talking to? Green sweater, pulled up as you was walking up.

That was me..I could have had an easy limit, but I stopped and ate a few snacks and just relaxed for a few minutes. It was just a few minutes after I started back after it that they closed the one gate. And, I threw back probably 10 or so that were just barely 10 inches

When I pulled up in the parking lot the game warden the game warden was just popping two guys with under size fish. They had three 6" hybrids (little short of 18") as well as a load of under size sandies. They insisted on arguing with the game warden that it was "their first time". Game warden confiscated their gear right then. Folks need to take a little time to read the fishing regs.

The Sustain is a step down from the Stella but some people say the new sustain and and stradic are basically the same.

haha, you're probably talking about me and my borther in law from kansas. we didnt get tickets. just two warnings. i learned two valuable lessons today. never fish with someone who doesnt have a license. and never keep a fish under 18 inches if you arent absolutely 100% sure that its a sandie. i was confident that i had a sandie at first. but after closer examination of the tooth patch with the game warden, i did have a undersized hybrid on my stringer. i still think by the stripes alone, it could have gone either way though.

i forgot my waders so i waded in my wind pants and sneakers. bad idea. i was shivering at the parking lot for an hour while the game warden was giving out tickets to 3 guys. but it was still a positive learning experience for me. and leroy the game warden is a good guy. very professional. i have all the respect for them. i love seeing their trucks out there even though i was on the short end tonight. side note, those guys are carrying some serious firepower. i think i saw at least 3 pieces of weapon in their trucks.

it was slow slow. 3 undersized crappie; 2 undersized sandies, 2 keeper sandies-actually 1 keeper sandie; 1 undersized hybrid

i really lucked out. i would have gotten an earful from my wife if she found out that her brother got a ticket cause i took him along without a license.

i didnt even think about my brother not having a license until i saw the game warden coming down the steps. then i was like, sh*t!

HaHAHA! That's funny. I did pretty good that day. 15 keeper crappie and 3 sandbass.

I dunno about you guys but a under sized hybrid looks like an under sized hybrid to me.

eeks Got BIT last night by a PB blue. 17lbs. Only on there to. Boy was it tricky landing that thing alone on the pier. Caught a mess of some crappies to. When I first got there I threw my castnet looking for bait. 1st toss caught a ton of crappies and a ton of gizzard shad. banana Tossed the crappies back and kept the good gizzards. I knew the crappie would be willing to eat them minnows I had ready for them. Sure enough them crappies kept me busy till I was frozen solid. What warmed me up around 3am was when that big blue hit a huge live gizzard shad. eeks Had to keep the blue because he swallowed the hook. I think the blue was on my line for a while. I was messin around with the crappie and look over and my catfish pole is just bent in half. bolt

Went behind the dam this a.m. My lure hit the water and they blew the whistle...kinda like they were waiting on me...then they started shutting the gates. There were four gates flowing when I got there; lure hit the water and they closed two of them.
Fishing was pretty slow, but there were a few larger sandies caught. Couldn't reach the middle gates with my gear so I left. Didn't see any crappie caught in that area.

Well, I know I bought mine there. I fish out of the Fishcat 4. A pair of good strong fins. I wear neoprene stocking foot waders so I can slip my feet in 'em. I think I can put ya on a crappie or two. Got Dr's appt's today, (skin cancer) stuff pretty simple consult at one and an incision and a few stitches for the other. Should be at the water somewhere around 3-3:30.

Small bites on cut shad and live shad fished toward the open gates. Didn't land any though and fished 1-3 pm. Other platform guy landed some white bass on minnows. NO cats seen landed.

I saw you!! Fri.. Hard for me to get out on an afternoon like that. This is my Sat Morning report. I was the first one at the Spillway at around 5:15 and in the water. Caught 2 keepers but only 1 was 11". I could see the clouds rolling in and starting to draw the wind. I knew it was gonna rain before I left the house. Lucky I had my trusty stearns rain gear. I had to kick back to where I could stand up and put them on. HA! Only myhands got wet. Saw the headlights of 1 then 3 vehicles pull in so I move on over to where I thought they should be and BANG! 1st cast I catch a 12+ fish. Next cast I cath another 10+ but not 11. A few minutes later I get another 11+ and that was it for the crappie. FRom that point on, I was moving and looking for fish. I fished everwhere without going on down creek and didn't get another crappie. I caught some MAGNUM sandies. Could have sat in one spot and caught sandies all day I think. Mr. Corps Man.. Please shut the water off!!! Please!!!

Search for the Lake Texoma or Red River threads. I posted some reports back when the weather was nice and warm...
