I am thinking about either getting a set of BFG All Terrain tires or a set of Michelin LTX A/T2's 265/70/17. Which would you choose. I do 90% highway driving but need good traction when I get on boat ramps since my truck has an open differential.

I am also kinda concerned about them putting Nitrogen in the tires. If your tire gets low it may be difficult to find places that do nitrogen. Should I just have them use regular air, cause after all that has worked in tires for years now.

air is the way to go. dont see the need for nitrogen. i think ethier tire is gonna be good. bfg will be a lil cheaper.

I am not familiar with those Michelins and have heard good things from people with the BFGs.

Nitrogen is used because it's a larger molecule so the tire doesn't leak air and it stays cooler so your tires don't get too hot while cruising down the highway. If you are doing a lot of highway driving, then the nitrogen might be beneficial for you. I think Costco (if you have a membership) offers free Nitrogen refill and they do offer the BFGs.

I do not use nitrogen in my tires.

You do realize that 80% of the air you breath AND put into your tires is nitrogen? Just put regular air into those tires and check 'em regularly.

If they put the nitrogen in your tires, it's ok as long as you don't pay for it. If your tires get low, add regular air. It won't hurt a thing.

Nitrogen is used in racing all the time. It doesn't expand or contract with temperature changes at near the rate air does. The more humid the air pumped into the tire, the more extreme the pressure changes can be.

That being said, for normal driving use, air works just fine. I have used nitrogen before, but only in an emergency when I had the nitrogen tank on my truck.

Costco has both brands of tires and they fill them with nitrogen at no additional charge. I agree that it probably isn't needed for automotive tires. Im not driving for hours and hours at a time. I think Im going to go with the Michelins from all the reviews I have seen on them.

nitrogen pressure is more consistent at different temps. Every time we have a cold snap, we have a ton of people come in with tire pressure warning lights on. Nitrogen will fix that issue

+1 not to mention that compressed air will contain some moisture that adds to the pressure fluctuations baised on ambiemt temps. That's why it's recommended to check the tire pressures cold, before jumping on that 2 lane black top highway in the 105 degree Texas summer. I've also heard some say they get better fuel mileage using nitrogen instead of compressed air but that is more likely to be associated with the constant pressure.

Well I went with the Michelins from Costco. They were cheaper than Discount Tire and offer the same warranty and services.

Thats right you must be a diver? Yes its like 78% nitrogen you breath in with every breath of normal air.
