I did not even want to fish today because I have been fishing so
much, but I went. Got to the brush pile around 9:30 am and right
away started catching keepers. I caught around 9 or 10 crappie
that I threw in the live well. Only one sunfish (perch) caught and I thought this is going to be a good day!
Brush pile 1 started to slow way down so I went to brush pile 2 and that's where the adventure began!
First fish I caught was a slab, over a pound and every one I caught was a keeper. I thought, "Wow, I might be able to get a limit of 25 today" something I've never been able to do!
So, I started fishing with a vengence, a real focus! I got up to around 18 keepers in the boat and it started getting rough, wind wise, on the lake. I ran over the buoy with my trolling motor and did not know it and so my trolling motor did not work because the line was stuck in it. But I did not give up, I was going to get my limit today come hell or high water.
I had 23 keepers in my live well and had 2 more to go when my radio quit. Oh no! I had the 2 fish finders on, both the live wells going and the radio going. I completly drained my
cranking motor! By this time the waves were pretty rough on the lake. I had pretty much drained my batttery's on the trolling motor before I got the buoy string stuck in there but it was my only hope. The first trolling motor battery was
too drained and would not crank up the motor. The second one
did it much to my relief! I left it on for a while and then
shut it off and popped my rod back in the water. I was determined to get my first limit of crappie! Just 2 more to go. Got a big bite and it turned out to be a Bass, 13 inches
but a good fight all the same. The next bite was just as big
and it was an almost 2 pound crappie, my 24th! About 5 minutes later I had my 25th keeper on the boat, what a day!
I caught 44 crappie and kept 25, a great day in my personal records! And my boat actually started so I could go home and fish another day!
