Having problems getting my 97 Tahoe to start. It cranks over fine and will fire up for a second w/starting fluid. Borrowed an OBD scanner and Fuel Pressure Gauge from autozone today and didnt come up w/any error codes. Fuel pressure only reads about 20-30psi though, replaced fuel filter but that didnt help.

Im assuming the fuel pump is bad? You can hear it come on for a second or two when u first turn the key on, but still doesnt get past 30psi of pressure.

Anyone know of a good repair place or someone that could take a look at it in the Rockwall area?

I would bet a dollar to a donut it's the fuel pump. I had the same issue with a 96 suburban. That thing needs 52 PSI in the fuel system to activate the ignition. Mine would work fine if it had only been sitting for a couple of hours. Any longer and the pressure would bleed down. After several tries to crank it would finally get enough pressure to fire up. Don't go cheap, get the Delco unit or you'll be changing it again soon.

Yep. 30 psi is not going to spray fuel in those injectors. They need around 55 psi to work.

Good test to find out if it is the fuel pump. turn the key on and you should hear a humming noise coming from the gas tank. If you do not. It is more than likely the fuel pump as mentioned above. Sometimes you can bang on the bottom of the fuel tank a few times and it will start.

Fuel Pump, the Vortec needs at least 66 PSI of fuel pressure to start. Anything lest than 60 is signs of a week pump. Always install a new fuel filter, strainer along with the pump.

yep its the pump get vin number for me and i can look it up and get ya a good deal on a factory pump i sell parts at a gm dealership in fw

Thanks for the info guys, it was the fuel pump. I ended up just replacing it myself. Runs great now.
