Sorry guys/gals if this has been answered before. I recently moved to Irving from Fairfax, VA. I've been fishing for ages and been wanting to fish some carp here. I love catching carp for the fight. I used cereal and mix with strawberry syrup to catch carp in the rivers. Any fun spots here in DFW to fish for some carp and what bait? I'd appreciate it guys.

Welcome aboard. banana

In the thread at the top of the board you will find a link to Zach's annotated map. Got all kinds of fishin holes described. Keep an eye on this forum and you will probably get opportunities to get out and fish with some of us, especially since it is going to finally start cooling down.

Yep, Zach's guide is a very useful tool. Some of the best small waters (for carp size) that I know of in DFW are in the Carrolton/Farmer's Branch area, which is pretty close by.

As for bait I think anything you're used to catching with you'll do well here too.

But I have only caught about 5 carp this summer so what do I know?

Before the water warmed up to bathwater levels, I was killing on bread. The few fish I've caught this summer all came on maize. As for what will work this fall, I can't wait to find out (this is my first year in TX too).

Is it October yet?

thanks for the replies guys. I am really looking forward for the weather cooling down. I hope I could find some good spots here wink I will look for Zach's link when I get home today. If any of you guys are going to head out on sundays please do let me know. Would love to join. I'm pretty used to catching carps 30lbs+ so hopefully can find something similar laugh

Smasher, also check with the BankFishing threads. There are plenty of places they mention, most of which will have carp.

You won't find many thirties in the immediate Dallas-Fort Worth area. Some of the lakes in east Texas (Fork comes to mind) give up the occasional thirty, as does Ladybird Lake (Austin), but our summers are too warm for carp to consistently grow that big. You can catch the occasional carp in the upper twenties during the pre-spawn, but low twenties is about the most you can expect around here. Lots of of single-digit fish here, too. smile

Well I'm pretty bored so any fish is fine, I've tried fishing in grapevine lake few times and cought hardly anything other than sunfish and small bass. Not suprised due to the summer heat all the fish go deep.
