Look into the Schlöngenhüffer line of rods, I believe they come from Germany.

I didn't even bother reading the 4 pages...just get a carp rod why spend money on something that is not meant to do something when you can spend your money on something that is...

What about the Cabela's predator rods ? They seem to be the only casting euro style rods I could find.

Just about any long flimsy rod is good. The important piece is the reel. You must have a nice smooth drag and I don't recommend putting any more than about 6 lbs of pressure on the fish or you will rip the hook out a lot.

The predator rod are ok and used by many. I've heard they break so be ready to take em back for a replacement.

Take it easy with em and watch out when you are casting a method feeder. All around a good starter rod imo.

I'd still get the king cat salt striker combo... laugh

I'll probably get the king kats first and upgrade to the predators later on unless I find some other euro rods that come in casting models.

I'm still trying to figure out why almost none of the euro rods come in casting models , are they shunned or heavily disliked in europe or something ?

A 6'6 pflueger rod(now 5'6 , damn door) with pflueger Criterion mounted on it and a 6'0 ugly stik with a shakespeare reel on it(I'm pretty sure it's a alpha with ugly stik painted on it.).

And both of those were gifts , see I'd stopped fishing about 2 years ago(family needed money so I sold all my rods and reels).

And recently got back into fishing when I got those rods and reels as gifts , if I had an actual choice I wouldn't of got those rods and reels.

I'm not sure if I want just any "long flimsy rod" , I want something that won't easily break and will take abuse.

The ugly stick lite would fit your rod that would take abuse. I think that they make them in a longer 9ft type version. I have several 7 ft lites and really like them, especially at the barges.

I used the spinning rods even with bait casting reels. Have had no probelms to date. Mounted bait casting reels on my new 12 ft Euros. Haven't had them out yet.

Really ? I've never tried that but I'm sure that would cut down on your casting distance.

I can't tell. I do not use spinning reels. The world casting record was set with a bait caster I think. Also, the wider eyes on the spinning rods allow the line to cast with less resistance.

I can bomb them out there far enough with this set up.

it don't matter what rod & reel you have ... if all you're gonna do is talk about it ... any rod & reel you have on hand would work better than not going fishing at all smile ... i have caught carp as long as i have been fishing ... back in the 60's & 70's, let me tell ya i didn't have anything special in the way of equipment

Well said flehan

I go back to the day of the Zebco 33 and 5 1/2 foot rods and caught double digit carp with them. All that matters is desire and opportunity. thumb

Agreed.

I have been carping almost three years now and I still only use about 50% "Euro" gear and the rest is still my old bass setups. I am thinking about replacing my bass rods though as they are medium heavy rods with very fast action tips. I have to keep my drag set pretty light to not have hook pulls close in.

But any gear you have will do. You just have to be aware of the limitations of your setup (i.e. compensate a lighter drag for a stiffer rod, etc.). But don't let that discourage you from fishing for carp. You don't NEED carp gear, it just makes things easier.
