Went out of the packery today about 26 miles out and trolled around the shrimp boats. I was using feather jigs tipped with ballyhoo. I had atleast five dolphin hit em and come flyin out of the water, but everytime i failed to get a good hook set. Even had one rip out some drag and when i started to fight it my line went lose and no fish. Someone please tell me what the hell i'm doin wrong. Other than that all we had were kingfish all day. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

If the fish is "tailwalking" and slinging his head he's probably throwing the weighted jig out. When they breach the water bow the rod tip to them. Might also try a lighter jig. You might also put the boat in drive and idle forward as you fight the fish in. Perhaps a stinger hook on the jig is in order.

yeah, try some different hooks. Those fish can shake pretty hard, I caught a few friday and saw that first hand...so I would agree that it's probaly slinging the heavy lure. Once you get one hooked and by the boat stringer it and leave it there and catch the others on something lighter, like a freeline with circle hook.
