My boat trailer is not long for this world, and I need another trailer. I don't know much about trailers, and I have a lot of questions. FYI, my boat is a 14-foot, semi-V hull, 1969 Monark that's probably heavy for its size.
1) My mechanic suggested having a new trailer built by Roadmaster or Roadrunner. Have you done this? Am I better off finding a used trailer (as I suspect)?
2) Where is a good place to find a used trailer? I am in Arlington.
3) Are there good online sites for boat trailers besides TFF and Craigslist?
4) How do I estimate the boat weight (with motor, equipment, etc.)? The boat has no tags, and it's pretty old, so finding this information is unlikely.
5) Are there other dimensions besides the boat length, width, and weight that I need to know to shop for a trailer?
6) What features should I look for in a trailer?
7) Can any trailer of suitable size and strength be adapted to fit the boat? How do you make the adjustments? Are there mechanics that do this work?
8) What other questions should I be asking? What else should I watch out for?
9) About how much should I expect to pay for a suitable used trailer?
Thanks for any and all help!
Brian
