We have a thing called a roadrunner tournament. I have never been apart of one. We get a choice of 5 lakes. I do not know anything about them. Please help me out if you can with any info on any of these lakes. Here are the lakes I can fish. Man Texas has a lot of Lakes that I did not know about. Is one any better than the other?
Lake Holbrook Lake Quitman Lakie Winnsboro Lake Gilmer Lake Hawkins

Been to Holbrook a few times. Great little lake. Always seem to catch a few out of the reeds and around the timber. No experience on the other ones.

Lake Gilmer is the odd one out.
Its not in Wood County as the others are, and has largemouth bass, minimum length limit of 18 inches rather than the 14 inch limit on the others.
Id personally go with Hawkins, as its been bery, bery good to me.
If you can get on good fish Gilmer could be the winner.

Holbrook is one of my favorites, although I have not been there in a long time. The fishing can be pretty good, especially after the the temp has dropped a few degrees.
Topwater early (gold/black chug bug). Always keep an eye out for schooling fish near the dam.
The lake has lots of docks and the fish will get real shallow under them. Try skipping a wacky rigged watermellon senko under the docks.
Watch your graph as you are moving around the lake. Any drop our break you see in 18-20 feet of water I would stop and fish with a carolina rig (watermellon centipede). If your are at the dam heading up the lake in a northwest direction there will be on of the boat ramps on your left, look back to the right and you will see a small creek arm. head toward the creek and fish the main lake point on your left. keep your boat in 20 feet of water. That point always holds lots of fish, but you usually will have to go through several short fish to get a keeper, but it will build some confidence in the lake.
Throw a spinnerbait (perch colored skirt with gold blades). This is not my style, but I have seen some of the locals catching some good fish doing this (summer/fall)

Holbrook can be a good lake at times. I have fished it in mid June. Club tourn and had 24 lbs. Lots of 4 and 5 pounders. Lot of home owners fish lake. And the lake can be tough with the pressure. Gilmer would be a better lake. Has less than 5 houses on the lake. Good hydrilla all over. Lots of timber, old roadbed, creek down middle, humps all over. Fish are big and lots of bait. I've fish Gilmer night tourns for past 5 yrs. We have had 35lbs stringers, big fish this yr. 12lbs, 11lbs, one night tourn 6:30 to 10:30 there was 3 teams that combin for almost 100lbs. Even though it is 18" min. You can catch 20lbs easy. You don't want to come to Gilmer with 12lb test. The lake fishes 3 ways, lock jaw, on structure, or in the grass. And it is like a little lake Fork. In it's hay day. Best little lake in east Texas.

I fished a tournament there 3 weeks ago, weighted in 12 lbs fishing the docks in around 10 ft of water using a 4 inch june bug swimming yum dinger on 1/8 ounce texas rig. good luck.
Min length on this lake is 14 inches not 18 as some people say.
