you'll catch so many catfish accidentally while carp fishing you won't need cut carp , just maize. I can't tell you how many 5-8# kitties I caught last year but it would have filled a freezer. The only time I'd consider using small carp for bait is for gator gar fishing. To each his own though and thanks for only using the smaller ones.... +10000000

well, i wasn't aiming at all and caught this  at fork i couldn't tell you how many 10-15lb cats chris and myself caught...some even a bit bigger than that

Wow , I'm gonna be buying some new catfish rods before I get a carp/channel set up , so I might just bring the catfish gear along to fork when I get out there later this fall. So the whole discussion about wich rod to buy was a waste of time WTG JB How ? I said I'd bring along my catfish rods with me while I was carping not that I would use them for carp.

How does bringing my catfish only rods with me so I can get in on the catfish action while I'm carp fishing with my lighter rods make the rod discussion pointless ?

How did I twist my own words , I said I'm gonna buy a new catfish rod then I'm buying a new lighter setup(carp/channel) , I still don't see how that made my rod discussion pointless.

I would love to join you guys, but I have to lay off fishing for a few days. I have "carp elbow" from casting those heavy rods and reeling in those big fish.  Grant, you need to go man. There are fish to be had.. Got my new lighter weight 12 footers in and really want to get out again. Oh well..

Actually by catfish rods I mean 12ft heavy action surf rods so yes the rods I'd use for carp/channel cats would be lighter. The big rod is for blues and flatheads not channels and carp.
