I am going to look at a trailer for sale for my Jon Boat.
Do I need to see a "title" for the trailer?
What should I look for so that I DON'T have any surprises when I go to the courthouse to get tags, etc.?
Thanks, Chuckwagon

you actually just need a bill of sale A "bill of sale" where the SELLER bought the trailer OR a "bill of sale" where "I" bought the trailer from the seller? Also, does the "bill of sale" have to be notarized?

Just registered a newly purchased trailer from a friend this morning. Hand typed Bill Of Sale with a price was all I needed.

Just a side note, I bought a heavey duty Trailer several years ago and because of the GRS axle wieght 12000 LBS I was issued a title. Not sure where the lbs point is for having a title issued but you do need a title for bigger trailers.

I've got a flatbed trailer with dual 3500 lb axles. When I got it registered, the girl asked what weight I would be carrying on the trailer regularly. I told the truth and said it would mostly be used to carry 1200 pounds (ATV and brush hog mower) and I might carry more than that on rare occasions. So she registered it as 1200 pounds and that's the registration fees I get charged for. The paperwork that she copied for their records said 7000 pounds. Hope that doesn't come back to bite me in the future.

4,000 lbs. is the point of where it is titled and have an inspection sticker.(I think) Weight and hauling capacity can't be over 4,000 lbs. together.
I have a flatbed that has two 3500 pound axles that I registered as home made. Weight of trailer I listed as 1,000 and carrying capacity as 3,000.
I have a dump bed trailer with dual 7,000 lb. axles and it is titled and also has to have an inspection sticker. Got pulled over this summer and was checked for weight. Was told I needed an inspection sticker.
