stop unpluging my trailer lights before backing into the water? Years ago, trailer lights were not waterproof, and the bulbs would pop if on and hot when the water hit them. I never quit unplugging, so don't know if modern lights are truly waterproof. Any comments?

I put LED lights on my trailer so I don't have to worry about it, but with the old lights I would still pop one every once in awhile.

FYI if you stop unplugging them now you will mess up your routine and then the next thing you know you will forget the straps then the plug and sink.... LOL. I unplug every time and I know its for no reason, but its my routine.

You are probably right, the old dog, new trick thing. I'll probably just stand there looking dumb, not knowing what to do.

Heh, you know I didn't even think about unplugging mine the first
time I got my boat to the lake. After having it mentioned here I
went to look and I've got LED's so I guess I certainly don't need
to start worrying about it.

And then there's the problem if you have trailer brakes that they won't disengage without the backup circuit.

outside of it being pure habit that is reason #2. Had a friend that his was stolen and he had to rig up a harness to get home on.

Just got back from Lake Conroe and discovered I failed to re-plug in tail lights when I finished pulling boat out of water. Darn, just talking about it upset my routine. I had decided not to change my routine, but too much thinking did me in. I was lucky to get back home without an accident or a ticket.

As stated a few times above, I would spend the money for LED
lights, seems like this eliminated all my trailer tail light
problems, I did it about 8 years back and have had no problems
whatsoever.
