Had yesterday off so I decided to hit Fayette with my son. Beautiful day on the water but very slow to start. We started with topwater and had 1 blow up in about an hour. Switched over to plastics and we managed to boat 1 in 20 ft and 3 in 5-10 ft of water in the trees by 11:30 am - overall pathetic for Fayette. I was so disgusted I decided to just go for a boat ride over toward the dam. I decided to stop on a deep drop out in the middle of the lake and broke out the drop shot. In about 2 hours we managed to boat about 20 fish off this spot and had several others get off. None of the fish were monsters, mostly 1 to 3 lbs but it was fun on 8lb test. I was hoping to see some schooling activity but by the time we left at 2 there was little to no activity.

I love chasing them when they are up and about schooling. I prefer to go during the week as I have found the boat traffic on the weekends tends to keep the fish from staying up for long. Unfortunately I do have to work and those weekday trips are rare in the fall! Winter and early spring are really the best time on this lake IMO but I HATE the boat traffic on Conroe in the summer so I tend to fish Fayette year round.
