What do you want to try? Lots of possibilities.

Tell us what you are after and there are several good folks on here who can offer experienced advice.

TFO signature series with a Okuma Integrity 7 wt or 8 wt, 100 yds of backing some sort of tropical line. That's probably about as cheap a set up you can find that is still good quality. You can even up wt the line if you wanted, it helps to feel the rod load better!

The best thing to do is to meet with your local fly club and talk to them. They'll probably have some recomendations or maybe even a loaner you can use to get your feet wet.

I will be watching this thread, I plan to get a setup for salt before to long. I have a 6wt set up but I want to get an 8wt for lake bass and salt. So, I plan to get a nice reel that will work for salt and see what happens.

For some of yall around Corpus, is there a decent fly shop in the area with good stuff for salt water? I found some really nice sites online for salt flies but it's always nice to be able to go into a shop and pick out a few and get the current reports.

There is a Orvis shop in Rockport and there is Roys in Corpus which doesn't carry much stuff. But if your planning on fishing just the Bay the setup I said above will work great.

go check with the guys at BPS in Pearland or Katy, iFly and/or Orvis on Weistheimer & Fishing Tackle Unlimited...its worth the drive to get some good advice, & believe me you will learn far more in person than you ever will listening to the barrage of answers you will recieve here. There is also a FF (fly fishing) club in Houston that will probably have someone who knows all about what you are after...good luck
