I bought a 2007 Dodge 2500 with under 30,000 miles. Well, whenever I turn sharp to the left the brake caliper hits the frame of the truck. It's in the shop and should be covered under warranty. Well, I get a call from the dealership and they claim that they cannot fix it and for me to come pick it up! They tell me to just not turn so sharp. It's a quad cab long bed and you can't help but turn sharp and it just doesn't seem very safe. Does anyone have the same truck with this problem? I'm not sure if I can claim this under the Lemon Law or Federal warranty law. I may have to hire an attorney. What would ya'll do? Thanks in advance.

Wow! That is not right. It needs to be fixed. The dealership may just not know what they are doing. I have had that problem before. This is a safety issue. Maybe someone else will have first hand experience in this matter.

Lemon Law only applies to the original purchaser of the vehicle. I've never heard of a caliper hitting a frame. Has the truck ever been in a wreck? Why are they saying it can't be fixed. I would bring it to another dealer & file a complaint with Chrysler customer service.

The truck has never been in a wreck. They cannot explain why they can't fix it. I filed a complaint with Chrysler but I'm not geting anywhere with them. They dealership wants me to take the truck and return the rental car but they will not say in writing that the truck is safe to drive. What gives?

If I remember right, our savior Obama said all warranty claims will be covered by the federal government for Chrysler/Dodge during the auto bailout.
Looks like you got a preview of health care reform, the government will not cover cr_p.
Hire an attorney, and get a second opinion.

John - lemon law is only for new vehicle purchases. I would first try another dealership and then a local repair shop if you know one well. Did you do a search on the net to see if there is anyone else out there with this problem? Surely you are not the only one having this issue....

i got an 06 short bed cummins. Mine dont do that. Could be a part part somewhere. Had to say without looking at it.

on all dodge trucks there is a turn stop welded on the back of the lower control arm. it is designed to hit the bottom of the spindle before caliper contacts anything. might see if it's there and also have your alignment ck'd to see if the control arm is bent, allowing it to miss the stop-point I've had many dodge trucks and none have ever done what you've explained. look for misaligned, bent or otherwise missing parts. I would also ck ride height to see if there's a weak spring or something. good luck -Brian

Thanks for the help guys. I just got it out of the shop and will take it for a second opinion. At first they told me that it cannot be fixed and then the service manager tells me that the turn stop has been rubbed down and that it is not covered under warranty.

sounds like your having the same exsperiance i was having with my gmc, i gave up and fixed it my self and told gmc to go f themselves.

Well, I took it to another Dodge dealership and had the service supervisor look at it. Both bolts on the brake caliper are hitting the control arm...on both the right and left side. The turn stops are in place but are not keeping the caliper bolts from hitting. Nothing appears to be bent or broken. He has no idea why they are hitting the control arm and there doesn't appear to be anything we can do to fix it. Something is majorly wrong.....

if the steering stop is worn down I dont see a reason you could drill and tap the area where the steering stop was and thread in a bolt allowing the bolt head to be the steering stop. Without looking at it I couldnt say if this would cause a weak point or not but if it doesnt appear to be a spot that would be weakened you could then adjust the bolt head in and out using washers under it to limit the steering to just clear the caliper bolts.
just a question but do the caliper bolts look to be the stock units or possibly replacements that have to large a head?

That biggo wheel base I could see why the stops could get worn down. I guess it turns a little sharper this way though huh?
Is it wearing on the calipers/bolts? Maybe not worth fixing if it isn't, just keep in mind the issue in rough terrain...
