I guess it was my fault for using it too hard, so I'm removing my negative comments.

Anyway, that's my story, and I'll try to get pics of both kayaks up so you can see how much wear these show and judge for yourself.

The point of all of this is to just let folks know. Apparently Pelicans aren't made for someone who fishes the rivers of texas on a regular basis.

Maybe I am just completely unreasonable for the use I put my kayak thru, and for expecting some sort of repair/replacement service for a kayak that is technically still under warranty. (and i mean that sincerely, not sarcastically).

Here are some pics: Rear of my kayak (the 2 year old)

The front of the boat (notice the 3 inch hole where the plastic is black)

And for reference here's a front and back of my wife's kayak which has been used less than 10 times.

I hope you get a cart for the Mini X.
Dragging a plastic boat will wear a hole in it.

I'm sorry that you feel that way toward pelican. I've had my castaway for going on 2 years now and haven't had a single problem with it. It's got a few scratches on the bottom but nothing like that. And until this summer, I was using it almost every weekend. It's funny how most of the people on this forum will bash Pelican in a heartbeat though. The kayak is what it is. A low priced entry level kayak. I bought it because I didn't have the funds to purchase one of the much more expensive ones.

thanks for the replies...

I probably shouldn't have purchased this boat for the same reason I don't need to fish with graphite framed reels...I just fish too hard.

Lesson learned, and fwiw, I did enjoy how the Castaway fished, no issues whatsoever there.

I apologize for wasting anyones time with reading this. I see that most of the fault is on my end...

I recently sold a Heritage kayak that I used more than a dozen times and it still looked new, with only normal beaching scuffs on the bottom.

I've got an ocean kayak scrambler that looks a little like the one up above but I bought it that way from a guy that fished the coast and drug it accross oyster reefs, but it doesn't have any holes yet.

Just seems with that kind of use it wouldn't matter if it's a Pelican or not, it will get a hole worn into it, and they haven't made a plastic yet that can take that kind of abuse!
