1st one looks like chewed-up bubble gum but it would catch fish and thats all that counts...crappie ain't into purty. 2nd one shows great improvement. Any questions, just ask. Plenty of folks on here are glad to help.

Just keep practicing and they will come around. Learn that whip finish and I don't care what anyone says, it's the best. That is why people that tie flies use it. Also later one if you get to tying things that the thread shows a great deal the Whip finish will make a neater finish.
On the unpainted lead, it will do just fine, but get yourself some Sally Henson's Hard as Nails Clear nail polish and coat it with that and it will keep it from oxidizing and getting darker and darker. They will work just fine without paint. Ask Cliff as he uses lots of jigs with unpainted heads.

Caught fish on my own jigs this weekend! The one at the top, my first jig, caught a fish on my first drop with it and as I was taking the fish off the jig came completely untied! I was still glad to catch a fish on it... pretty or not.

OK guys... I got more new stuff today including a couple of powder paint colors. Tried my first batch of 10... ruined 5 of them due to sticking to each other in the oven. How do yall go about "cooking" them, or is it OK to skip that step? How do you kepp them separated or how do u hang them in the oven?

I have a backing rack if I use the big oven, but when I feel it's not so many to take too long I also use a toaster oven and yes you have to cure them. If not a simple drop on a hard floor can crack and chip the paint. Some do cure theirs, but I cure every one of mine. In the toaster oven has it's own rack made from metal wire and hang them by the hook on that. You do need to be a bit careful so they don't touch before they cool a bit.
If it was me I would remove most of the paint from the ones you got together and re-paint them. If you don't want to oven cure your jigs then you can just get some vinyl paint and the only thing with that is you have to paint them white first.
