I have a chance to get a small house on lake Medina, never have fished it,but at least it is about 100 miles from Lake Amiatad. Would appreciate any info on the bass fishing there, close to retirement and really do love to wet the lines. thanks ,good luck on all your fishing trips

The lake is pretty low now.... could be a mud puddle in a few months.

Medina is a lake of extreme water fluctuations. I was there for the past two years in March; in 2008 it was near full, and beautiful. Clear, clean water. In 2009 it was about 25' low, most docks dry, but we did still catch a mess of white bass, stripers, panfish, as well as largemouths and guadalupes. If you can put up with occassional periods of low water, go for it!

I pretty much grew up around Medina lake and it's a good lake for someone who is retired, and can fish during the week, as weekends can get pretty hectic.
The lake is low, just like would be expected with the drought, but it does fluctuate more than any of the other lakes around as it's got a very small area of runoff upstream.
It has to rain almost in the exact spot and that is above the town of Medina in between those hills that feed runnoff into the lake otherwise it gets very little help from the surrounding area watershed.
Throw in irrigation demands and evaporation its going to be down more than it will be full, so you must accept that fact.
Other than that, it is kind of a sleeper lake in that it doesn't get a lot of pressure most of the year, and although it's not really known for size of fish, the numbers keep it interesting.
I think you'll enjoy it, and besides you'll be really close to Calaveras and Braunig and Canyon lakes if you need a change of scenery and some of the best freshwater redfishing, and catfishing around.

Amen Jimbo. I love Medina. Great to excellent numbers of bass can be caught. Just a fun lake to fish. And the water is beautiful.
