Back in Kansas the stripper fishermen would use surf rods and shad for bait. But there was only certain areas of the lakes that you could do good for strippers from the bank.

I'm about 30-45min from most dfw area lakes , so any of dfw lakes would have to be my answer.

There's so many ways. Asking just that question doesn't help.

Well constantly throwing out a lure bores me. Where does that get us ?

If you don't like casting a lot I would stick to catfishing.

I catch stripers on the fly just down from the dam in dennison. If you are catching for fun you can catch a millions small ones. You will also catch large shad, suckers and catfish. Its a blast. A spinning rig in the same place would have the same results I'm sure.

About the only good place to catch striper on the banks around here is Denison Dam. If you don't like to throw lures or jigs, then you're gonna have to get your hands on shad or bluegils in order to have any real success.

I would say Ray Hubbard early in the morning (before sunrise) grab some fresh shad, take some surf rods, and throw as far as you can from the point at robertson park (i-30 on the south side). Birds usually work in the mornin there.

Tawakoni, whitney, benbrook, lewisville, texoma etc

Surf rods with fresh shad, ghost minnows. 3oz weights casted out far.

And yes texoma lake side bank is really good right now.

Denison is the closest and by far the easiest spot to catch striper. cast out whole or cut shad and you will be in business....you might catch dinks all night with an ocassional good one but you will catch...

lewisville got some nice hybrids you can catch off the bank right now. but you will need to cast a jig pretty far. friend caught some nice 5-7 pound hybrids the other day.

Get you some live/fresh dead bait. Shad can be had at boat docks or any kind of structure with a cast net. Ghost minnows are all over any sandy beach area and can be caught with a sene net.

My #1 choice for Stripers/Hybrids are ghost minnows! Ghost minnows = Striper/Hybrid CANDY!

Many factors go to ghost minnows being my #1 choice.

A. G.M. for the most part stay near the beach area, so when sandies/hybrids/stripers/catfish see them in deep water, they'll eat'm up!

B. They have a smaller body anatomy which allows them to be casted farther with out much line twists.

C. They also have a harder meat, so during casting, they do not fall off nearly as much as shad.

D. THEY WORK!

You can get into them if your lucky they come in that close. Just about anything works if/when they do come in close enough that you can cast to em.

Roostertails WHITE
Road Runners WHITE/CHART/etc
Swim Baits: Shad colored
Topwater, if they are busting water: Zara spooks (CLEAR), Chug bugs, etc

These are the ones i use close to shore since they are cheaper then rattletraps and DD22;s.

I'm with Hampster1. Striper Candy as far as possible! Also Iluvfishin made some good lake suggestions.

Youll have to excuse Hampster1. As you might can tell by his signature & "yup but screw the 3oz..." comment that he's what you might call a Hardcore Hankbeater!
