Fishing buddy Ed D. and I fished Fork for whites on 8/11 and got skunked. We hit all the good looking points and humps at the dam and down the lake in both directions. Never saw anything we belie were white bass on the depth finder. We did manage to pick up an 11 inch yellow bass, a 2 lb channel cat and a 3 1/2 lb black bass. We lost 3 more big fish presumed to be blacks in a submerged tree on one of the points where we tried for whites. Has anyone successfully fished for whites at Fork? Any tips re approach. We concluded that we were just stupid for going white bass fishing on a black bass lake. Dennis

Lake Fork was stocked as a Largemouth Fishing lake, No Whites
have been stocked in there by tpwd as far as I know, there could
be a few in there accidently but never stocked. This may be
the reason for White Bass fishing being a little tough there.
I generally always check what has been stocked in a lake before
I fish there, Also lake record for that fish. Try txfishing.com
and click ot Texas Lakes to find the lake to see what has been
stocked there.

I have caught 4-5 big whites by accident while crappie fishing, its just a matter of time. But I really hope the Big Blacks keep them thinned out, theres plenty of other lakes full of them.

My brother in law caught a huge white one night out of there. He really thought it was lake record, and i did to.He went and had it weighed, and missed it by a couple of ounces.I think it went 3 1/2 or 4lbs.

There are some really big yellow bass in Fork. We had a lot at Pope's Landing and fished the lake all of the time. We never caught and sand bass but we did load up on some big yellow bass. There was never any stocking of white bass in Fork.

I guess they could have made their way up a creek or somebody emptied their live wells in the lake.

Big Sand Bass...and like you said, I hope they dont get out of hand on Fork.

Plenty of good places to fish for Sandies...we dont need for to be another, will only hurt the black bass population....only so much bait and sandies eat the bait for sure!

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Since 1957, the only lake to get any significant white bass stocking is Falcon. The most any other lake in Texas has ever received from TP&W was Lavon in 1957 when they put 300 in there.

I guess I owe an explanation as to why we fished Fork for whites. I live on Cedar Creek Lake and spend most of my fishing time there. After a while, my friends and I try to spice up our fishing by challenging ourselves to go to another lake and see if we can catch our limit using our structure fishing technique. We HAD been having good success. In 2007 2 of us went to Richland Chambers and caught over 100. Last year we went to Tawakani and caught 90+. Eearlier this year I went to Paletine and caught 50+ and to Lake Waco and my grandson and I caught 102. SO I got a little cocky. I heard that Fork DID have whites in it and checked lake records to be sure. Also at least one site advertising Fork lists it as featuring blacks, crappie, bluegill and white bass. So, with a great amount of overconfidence we set out to catch out limit of whites at Fork only to be completely humbled. From the answers I've seen so far it appears that no one targets whites there - the ones caught are by accident. Unless I see someone someday report a good catch of whites there, I doubt we'll ever try again. Dennis

Tawakoni is a great sandbass lake. thumb I wouldn't waste my time on Fork. You don't have to worry about getting run over by all of the Lake Fork "pros" either. I fish Tawakoni all of the time. Send me a PM if you want some more info.
