Some, but not as much (as I can tell) as in the DFW area; believe it or not, we don't have as much fresh water down here!

I am a bit lazy when it comes to finding new spots; I have a pond and creek a couple of minutes from the house, and although I have caught only up to 12 pounds there, and blank about 30% of the time, I just enjoy getting outside by the pond and creek.

Have you seen the new Lake Houston water body record on TP&W website Sherwood? Somebody got a 40.

Wow thats amazing.
I wonder if he was targeting carp or got it 'accidentally'?
Must be some big predators in there as well to keep down the 'dink' population to allow for a 40 to grow. Gator gars, probably.
It sounds like the Ponderosa in October might be the ticket!

I can not say that I have actually fished lake Houston but from what I have heard there are a lot of small carp in there. Maybe we can do a session there in October. We can have a nice fishin and see what we can come up with. We need to pick a good spot to fish though that has enough bank space. Suggestions anyone!

Apart for Deussen Park I'm not sure what is available with ample bank space.

Good news: common carp was caught and released!
More good news: The three biggest fish caught (carp, blue cat, flathead cat) were all caught in the past 18 months.

If a common carp of 40inch is caught in june after spawn its weight is at its smallest of the whole year
If the same fish is caught in winter its a lot heavier

Stephen, most likely you will need to meet some, like crago or chris garcia, when they are putting together a session.
There are lots of guys looking for partners at different times; keep an eye on these threads and you'll be able to hook up with them.

Tight lines!

As the weather cools down I plan on spending a lot more time on the bank than I have been lately. It's usually me and my Dad, but you'd be welcome to come along any time Stephen. I hope to hit the ponds and Grapevine especially hard come fall. I need new PB's, carp and buff both lol.
