Took my 2 girls out there yesterday for some quick crappie action and was a bit disappointed. caught about 15 crappies. ALL were under 10 inches. I do have to say that place is pretty depressing. I felt depressed the whole time i was there for some reason. Maybe because everyone there just sat there and starred at their rods for a bite for 4 hours straight. No one talked or smiled, they just looked at you like they wanted to eat you. It was like that movie " The Hills Have Eyes" .

Too bad. Years ago I spent a lot of time there when I lived in that area, but mostly in the winter. Caught plenty of Crappie all over that barge. Was a great place, maybe you need to try in cooler weather.

The best thing they could do is sink that place.

+1 Brian, that place is a dump. Maybe if the barge was sunk it would attract some fish.

+1 on the condition of the place, not to mention it's the most expensive barge around..not at all worth the money

Guys, that place was a nice place to fish yrs ago (as already stated), but the yrs ago that your talking about is like 30 yrs old. Heck, I'm 44 and I remember going in there with my dad when I was in my early teens..... The place probably needs to be totally rebuilt.

I have seen a postcard dated in the 50's that has a picture of that barge in it.

It's a shame. It used to be a good place to fish and a great place to get a burger on the lake. Now it's a dump, and the fishing sucks.

Here is a link to the postcard:

clicky

Ernest should buy the place and fix it up.

From the text of the postcard ...

"Just north of Lewisville, Texas on U.S. Hwy. 77. Refrigerated air conditioning, baited, excellent cafe, clean rest rooms, television, 300 comfortable chairs."

Air conditioning stipulated

Baited? Not any more to my knowledge

what cafe??

Clean? you call those clean??

Television ... small black & white job behind the employee counter

300 comfortable chairs. Well, they're more comfortable than sitting on bare wood.

Yeah, the place USED to be nice. It could be turned around if someone wanted to invest the money in repairs, upgrades, etc., but I imagine the Corps of Engineers may not give permission for the necessary work (it IS attached to Corps land after all)
