o found a spot on the old river bed were the lake drops of for around 30 feet to somewhere around 60 feet. is that to deep to put out some brush

12-22ft. Should be good! Keep in mind draw down though! Brad

For summer fishing you probably wouldn't want to go deeper than the thermocline (here's a link to some info on how to find the thermocline and what it means for fishing). That deep might work for winter, or it might be a good winter spot without the brush.

That would be too deep for summer brush, but I have brush in 28-32' that I catch fish on in the winter...on Cedar Creek Lake.

It sounds like it would still be a good place to fish in the winter - at least worth checking with your sonar when you go. You might find them suspended somewhere along the drop. Or if you could get the brush to stay at the top that might be good. You never know until you try. I wish I had some drop-offs like that marked.

generally if you stick to the 10-25ft range your better off. As these guys said, during winter the fish go the deepest but you can generally still catch fish in the 25ft range even during the coldest parts of winter.

I've never put out my own structure but I fish the carp out of it. Generally speaking I've found that when the fish are deep they are suspended, and they can move up and down throughout the day by 20+ feet. However those fish normally aren't relating to structure so having a brushpile at say 50 feet when the the fish are holding at 30 over 50 isn't really going to pay off except a few hours per day, unless it's a really tall brushpile. If your going to fish structure that is holding fish, you're going to be in 30 ft or less most of the time. At least I am. I dunno though really, I never really look for brushpiles in 50-60 foot of water while crappie fishing, so I could be completely wrong. Maybe someone who has set out some really deep structure will come along. If nothing else you could always fish it for cats.
