what is the best rig and trolling method for Whites/Hybrids.
Most of my fishing experience is with large mouth bass, but I'm trying to learn to fish for whites since my son (12) is fishing with me more and more.
We have had good success jiging slabs/spoons and casting but I think when the times get tough trolling would be the better way to keep him interested. We are going back to Cooper next weekend and we have been fishing Tawakoni from time to time. Right now we are just chasing birds and watching for schools and I know I have a lot to learn.
thanks!

My advice would be for you to really get in tune with your electronics and learn what to look for. You might also want to take a teaching trip from a guide that specializes in such trips to kick it up to 10. Once you are able to locate the fish on humps, dropoffs, or structure you'll increase your catching and not waste a ton of gas. Or you can just troll a Hell-pet at 2mph. Good luck and I hope that boy catches a sack full.

Locate first, then troll. Many boaters waste a lot of time and gas trolling over no fish.

Thanks guys,
I really didn't understand. I thought Trolling was a search method like burning a rattle trap for large mouth.
Our last trip to Cooper we didn't catch very many but my son did catch a very nice Hybrid 3lbs-15oz.
Once I learn how to add pictures I'll add it to the reply.
I'm adding new electronics to my boat. I the one who asked the question on the open discussion about what you guys think is best. I've read good and bad about the new Lowrance HDS units.

welcome aboard

an ol bass fisherman won't have too much trouble picking up this white/hybrid/striper chasing...

we normally don't troll just to be trolling- but we usually mark schools and try to slab em up if we have experienced folks on board

over the past five years at Tawakoni- we have found dependable, seasonal patterns- we pay close attention to thermocline during the warmer months and if you can find a spot with some contour and a thermo break...

talk to some folks that fish the lake you are targeting- if you are headed back to tawak, i'll tell you what I know or what I have heard
