Will a 13ft sit in work ok for bay fishing? I know that most everyone uses a sit on top, I didn't know if there was a reason.

a sot is much easier to get back in should you flip. Plus they are usually wider and more stable.

Bay fishing should be fine. I love my 9.5 sit in. If surf fishing, you would want the sot for sure.

SINKS are good boats it's jsut that SOT are just more fisher friendly. Almost anything you do to a SOT you can do to a SINK it just takes more imagination. Also, like Dave mentioned, if you happen to flip a SINK, the cockpit will fill with water and you gotta bail. Not the case with a SOT. On the other hand, SINKS are typically more stable because you are sitting right at the waterline where if you are on a SOT you are raised 6 or more inches above the waterline. For bay fishing I would recommend a SOT considering that there is a reason why it is the huge favorite for that body of water BUT there are yakkers out there who wouldn't trade their SINK for anything. You should demo both types and see how the fit your needs the best.

One word, heat. SOT are a lot cooler and have more options to stay cool.

I may have missunderstood, but if you already have the SINK, by all means take it to the bay and give it a try. Just be sure to WEAR PFD, and have a bilge pump handy. On a personal level, I took one of my Otters to the coast one year, never worked up the nerve to put it in. Next yr. bought the Scrambler XT., not the best but the price was right.

I'd have to say the worst thing about fishing a sit in on the flats is if you drift on a school of fish and aren't sitting side saddle you'll have to get your stake out from behind you and stake out which takes all of 20 seconds but sometimes all you have is a few seconds to make that cast. Where as if your in a SOT siting side saddle as soon as that tail pops up I plant my feet and start casting.

I need to post pics of mine sometime... Everyone says sot's are better but I love my sit in! I have custom rod holders, fishfinder, lights, etc... Like I said... I love it!

Both types have different applications, not one is better than the other. When it comes to the flats, IMO, SOT are better! However, if you asked 20 different kayak fishermen who use SOT and SINKS I bet half would say SOT and half SINKS.
