Listen up Palestine Hybrid hunters. (huntdux06-Martyk8-sanbasscamp-Mo-Iberia-Parkenstein-ChaseNTheBite-Curly Dog-bb1379-Trump903-Bass Fro chop-rbadley-Buff2 and all other TFF'ers. This is the Fall edition of BIG Hybrids Contest. It will start Sept. 1st and run till Dec. 31. There will be two categories (Length) and (weight)in which we will keep up with the top 25 in each category. You can have as many fish in each category that makes the top 25. It must be caught on rod and reel....you can use live bait also. You must take a picture of your fish being measured or weighed and post it. Its a free contest with nothing but pride on the line. I do not expect someone to say where you caught your fish on the lake. But ask that you say what type of bait and time of day it was. I believe this is something fun to keep up with for all. Im open to any other ideas about this. Its open to all TFF'ers that fish Palestine. Best of luck....Starts Sept. 1st till Dec. 31st

hey, great idea!!! count me in of course.
we should also have a monthly get together too where we can compare stories in person. what say ye? maybe at lake palestine resort, they have nice boat docks, a nice porch and deck in the back, and grill too! maybe once this gets going we could go try out some other lakes together some times.

Lake Palestine resort does have everything. Maybe at some point put together like a Hybrid and Sandbass tournament. Never know......just a thought but something i think would work.

Great ideas. I will participate, but will be out of town from Sept 27th, through November 2nd. Kinda puts me behind the 8-ball. But count me in for what ever I can do.

Glad you guys are game for this. (Curly Dog-I see your gonna be out of town for about 5 weeks or so. This is why its 4 months long....to give everyone plenty of time to get some fish on the board. I know you lost a few big ones back in the spring. My gut tells me .... your just due for a huge one. (Parkenstein-I know what your say'n bout Sept. can be kinda tuff. But in the past week myself and some others have been stirring up some nice Hybrids pretty good. (Benbrook Guide- It would be great for ya to get over here and fish for some of these Palestine Hybrids. Would be glad to help with any info ... if ya head this way at some point.

On the water by 5:30 this afternoon with martyk8. Looking for an afternoon bite for Hybrids. I think we caught everything but a Hybrid. Loads of sandbass .... several Black bass and catfish.. plus one crappie. All fish were caught on Med. size crankbaits and TNT slabs. Just didnt get any nice Hybrids this trip.

Were any of you guys at that boat show at the Horesfarm on friday night ? Don't know if they were catching or not , but there were about 10 boats clumped in a small area just about sundown. I fished sunday, caught a few hybrids , lots of sandies, one lost green trash fish , a crappie , 2 species of catfish, Just a drum shy of a Lake Pal grand slam. all on a silver prism jiggin spoon , 10 to 17 ft, west side. good luck Mo

Yes HrT and I were out there Friday Mo, and we seen the boat show going on. We stayed south of it about 200 hundred yards and caught loads of fish on TNT 180 slabs. Couldn't see what the boats north of us were using but didn't see anyone catching many fish. All in all it was a fun afternoon/evening.

Its rough getting old.. lol I'd be glad to help. PM me if you want. I'm on the forum most weekdays during business hours. Were any of you guys at that boat show at the Horesfarm on friday night ? Don't know if they were catching or not , but there were about 10 boats clumped in a small area just about sundown. Sounds like a great time Mo. I've only hit the Palestine Grand Slam once. But it was over a whole weekend, 48 hr period. So I'm not sure it counts... Still itching to get back out there. Haven't done any good fishing since July 4th weekend. We were out there 2 weeks ago but did some entertaining with the skiis and the tube. Didn't even put the fishing gear in the boat. I'll probably be out there mid Sept to give you guys come competition!

CnB-- to go in the official record book and become eligible for the Lake Palestine Hall of Fame, , it has to be in a single day , 12.00.01 till midnight. You do get exta credit if they all come from the same lure. The only lure to my knowledge ( and I am the official LPGS rule keeper, ) to complete the slam is the silver prism jiggn spoon. Like this only silver. Good luck MO

Mo ... yeah im not sure what was up with boat show friday. They all seem to be waiting for something to happen. Funny thing was none of them was catching anything....while me and marty was put'n the whoop on some fish. Im just glad they never came over towards us.
Went out Sunday morning with Iberia....Fished from 5:45am till 9am. Caught only two....things had changed since friday for sure. Im also thinking maybe the bite didnt start till later in the morning...cause the Moon was to rise alittle after 10am. But we had to be off the water by then. Maybe im just reading to much into it. Tend to get like that when i get my butt kicked! Ha!
ChaseNTheBite....I expect to see you post some nice ones on the board. And you cant do that pulling tubes around the lake with no fishing gear in the boat!! Ha

Hey guys! I'm a newbie to this site, but fish Palestine regularly. I was on the lake Friday afternoon/ evening. I caught a lot of sandies at the Horsefarm in the afternoon, found a large school of largemouths early in the evening at another spot, and went back to the horsefarm right before dark. At the horsefarm, I saw a Skeeter that was on my best spot, which I now see was a couple of you guys! I then went further north to my second spot and found a school of sandies and immediately started catching them. They soon started surfacing, and the barges that were just hanging out and another boat came over to join in the action- hence the boat show! You are right in that it seemed that they didn't catch much....

Martyk8 - I will definitely get in on the fall contest. I believe I have seen you out on the water a few times this year. I have a blueish & silver Ranger fish/ski combo with 200 Merc and judging from Friday night, I apparently fish the same areas you do. I'll stop and introduce myself the next time I see you out there - especially if you are on top of the fish! Just kidding - I always try to make sure I give everyone their space on the water.

It was slow today. We did stir up a couple short hybrids and a few magnum sandies. Along with 2 small blues 1 channel plus a black bass. Did not see any schooling what so ever. Nice afternoon to be out on the lake... just alittle slow.
I almost forgot....1 nice crappie. Baits used...med. size crankbaits, rattletrap and pet spoon

Gezz..i read that last post and it almost sounds like we had a good trip. While we did catch fish...it was slow. Seems like it was something different with every catch. The catfish have been killing the crankbaits or slabs the last couple weeks. Its always funny to see them caught on lures....just seems odd when you see them. Just about all fish that was caught or marked on graph came in water 16 to 22 feet. Get'n ready to give it a go again this afternoon.

Great idea. I have just signed up on TFF. Have been reading posts for months so I thought I would get involved.
I live on Lake Palestine and spend as much time as I can on the water.
Should get going when the water cools down a bit.
I usually start catching the bigger fish when these fronts start moving through. Carolina rigged shad on the windy clay points has been a good pattern. Tried it Sunday evening and caught a bunch of whiskered fish and a few drum but nothing that would make the clicker scream.

We never weighed it. But it was just probably around 8 or 9 lbs. It was'nt that long. We caught many fat fish that day, but none of us had ever seen one like that. This fish was caught on Tawakoni.

I actually did weigh it and that fish was only 17 inches long and it weighed a little over 8 lbs. Couldn't keep it even if we had wanted to because it was under the 18inch length min. 17in 8lb

Water still looks good at this point. Lake turnover is an often miss-used term. The correct meaning has to due with the surface water cooling and sinking , displacing the water on the bottom( which rises. Happens in the late fall, early winter.
Many people use the term to describe the effect of low dissolved oxygen in late summer causing bottom vegetation to die off , and rise to the top , causing brown water and a objectionable odor. ( sometimes a fish die off happens if the o2 gets too low). Does not happen on every lake or all portions of a big lake. Lake Palestine doesn't have a lot of vegetation in many areas , It is not usually a problem on the south end, where I live.
good luck

When asking about lake turnover, I was referring to the lake temp decreasing, surface water sinking, and forcing lower water up. See the link below. http://www.onthelake.net/fishing/turnover.htmI would assume this affects the bite, but I haven't noticed a huge change in the past 2 years. I'm sure the lake is just dealing with the new water coming in from creeks from the recent rains. Sorry for the off topic post, but it leads to a discussion about the bite...

CTB-- I think that our lakes cool so slowly as opposed to northern lakes , that turnover is not as large an issue. I have seen the southend of Palestine go brown some years in the late summer/early fall , and that always puts a damper on the fishing for a little while.
I look for the bite to steadly improve with decreasing water temps , and turn on big time after the second COLD front.
good luck MO

still nothing on the board yet? i thought that w/ the rain last week they'd have turned on, surely the water temp has gone down into the 70's by now, this mornign on ktbb they were saying that most of the lakes are cooling nicely & the fish are moving into the shallower waters. anyone go out there this morning? any topwater action yet? they ware wearing them out on topwater at texoma according to Brian @ stripers inc.

We stayed on the water the entire day Saturday. My wife and I stuck to trolling to try and locate a school. We found nothing. I tried every spot I've ever caught any at and we ended up with bupkis. I think we caught 4 sandies in 8 hours. I saw plenty of fish on the graph, but nothing that wanted to bite. Weird day. I never spotted any surfacing action. I got up in Caney Cove Sunday morning and i saw alot of Shad activity on the surface, but nothing wanted to bite what I was throwing. But a bad day fishing was still better than a good day working...

HRT with a 26.25" Hybrid caught on TNT slab about 8:10 am We also caught a few Magnum sandies this morning. Started out with live bait but wasnt picking anything up. I started throwing a 1oz. TNT slab and caught these 2 Hybrids pretty quick. Curly picked his Hybrid up trolling a crankbait. 1. headsRtails 26.25" on TNT slab 8:10 am 2. headsRtails 23.75" on TNT slab 7:50 am 3. Curly Dawg 22.00" on crankbait 9:50 am

Ya'll got some nice fish there. I figured with the water temps. comming down the action would start picking up. Doctor says I got to keep out of the boat for 2 weeks to give my back time to heal. As much as I hate it I am going to do like he said so I'll be good to go for the rest of the season. I got a feeling we all are going to catch some nice fish out there this fall.

yeah, i was the only voice in support of hybrids and obviously was not enough to convince the chamber board to have a hybrid division. maybe we can have them change that if we (tff palestine hybrid hunters) all call the chamber and subtly ask them "is there a hybrid division?" i might be off sat. afternoon, i'll try to get clearance from the wife, call me arounf thursday, hopefully i'll know more by then...

Maybe in time we can get something rolling Hybrid wise. I saw were someone wrote sandbasscamp doing fine. Sure to see him put a nice one on the board soon. From the reports im hearing its been a mixed bags of fish as of late. Some Big Hybrids should be rearing there heads here before long. Remember at this point even an 18 inch Hybrid can make the board as there are only three on it. We are keeping up with the top 25.

I've been skunked the last few trips looking for the Hybrids, so I just got back from Academy with a sack full of TNT baits to see if I can entice them this weekend.
Look forward to meeting most of you out there during the hybrid contest...great idea!!!

Welcome Mudbone....look forward to seeing some Hybrids posted. Monday i got chance to fish with Iberia. While only having a couple hours of daylight. It was Overcast .. slight breeze out of the Northeast. We worked a large flat off a point....Thats been known to have paydays. But not that day. We finished off the day with one sandie. Today...I fished with Martyk8. On the water by 2:30..Overcast..surface temps 74 to 75. We headed North above the 155 bridge just outside flat creek. Looking for some shallow water Hybrids. While we didnt find any Hybrids up that way. We got into a nice pocket of 1 to 2 pound bass. Sat in one spot and got 20 or more off it. Martyk8 Lil green monsters We made a move south after a while and found a cove busting with fish. 1 to 2 pound bass and some small sandies and little Hybrids. After catching 40 or more.... Knowing we only had an hour left...we moved to a deep water point. A nice school of Magnum sandies came up at dusk. We worked as fast as we could with some 17to18 inch hybrids mixed in with them. After catching quite a few... I nailed a 23.25" Hybrid for the last fish of the day. All fish today were caught on rattletraps, inline spinners, spinner baits and about a 1/2 dozen other baits. These pics are with a camera phone..not the best. Plus the 23.25" Hybrid pic was taken in the dark. Fun day out...loads of fish...but the Quest goes on! 1. headsRtails 26.25" on TNT slab 8:10 am 9/24/09 2. headsRtails 23.75" on TNT slab 7:50 am 9/24/09 3. headsRtails 23.25" on BangTail inline spinner 7:00 pm 10/14/09 4. Curly Dawg 22.00" on crankbait 9:50 am 9/24/09 Ya'll get some posted!

It was fun getting out on the water today and fishing with HrT. If we'd been fishing for food today we sure wouldn't have gone hungry. Started catching fish sa soon as we got set up. Although at first they were not the Hybrids we were hoping for (LMB) it was sure enough was fast and fun. Our last stop of the day got us on some big Sandbass and a few nice Hybrids. I am just thankful my back problems have slacked off some and I can get back out on the water again. Iam ready to get back at it again tomorrow....

how'd you do today marty? i meant to call you but things got away from me at work and then i had my thursday night trap shoot and i'm finally getting home now...

Are you in a red/black skeeter? (or is that Parkenstein??) Last Saturday my dad and I were out in his pontoon and stopped at a spot you were sitting on. We stayed far enough away because I know they stack up there and if you aren't within 10 feet of either side, you won't catch fish-didn't want to spook your fish. (or whoever was there) We went all over the lake that day and didn't catch a fish. Horse ranch, chimney, saline, etc.

Out fishing with Martyk8 today. With somewhat High pressure overhead ... I really didnt expect much today. But we went out and gave in a shot anyway. Stiff wind out of the North and surface temps. 70 to 71. We headed North of the 155 bridge looking again for some shallow water Hybrids. First stop just outside Flat Creek produced 1 catfish and a 17" Hybrid. After seeing theres not much there.....we moved alittle further north to check a shallow flat. We found them there...but not the size we were look'n for. All about 17 to 18 inches. Also picked up a couple Black Bass. With daylight winding down....we made our move south back to a great spot that always has bigger Hybrids. Like clock work ... they were there. After catching several 19 to 20 inch Hybrids. Martyk8 caught a 23.25" Hybrid for the big one of the day. I ended up with my largest being 21 inches. While nothing big today....we did catch more Hybrids than other fish today. Bass caught on Red Eye shad Lots of these 17 inch Hybrids today My 21" Martyk8 with 23.25" Hybrid Better than I thought it would be today The Quest goes on!!!!! 1. headsRtails 26.25" on TNT slab 8:10 am 9/24/09 2. headsRtails 23.75" on TNT slab 7:50 am 9/24/09 3. martyk8--- 23.25" on Rattletrap 6:30 pm 10/17/09 3. headsRtails 23.25" on BangTail inline spinner 7:00 pm 10/14/09 4. Curly Dawg 22.00" on crankbait 9:50 am 9/24/09 5. headsRtails 21.00" on Rattletrap 6:40 pm 10/17/09

It took us a while to find them but when we did HrT and I started getting them in the boat. We just didn't catch them big ones up on the north end of the lake like we was hoping for, but them 17" and 18" Hybrids are sure fun to catch. The south end was where we got into some larger fish, it was great fun. I thought we'd see more boats out there today.

Sounds good 'Live Bait' The lake is up .... lots of water in the grass and with alot of small bait along the shoreline up and down the lake. Hybrids and pockets of bass here and there...once you nail one, theres more held tight in that spot. There not moving around alot as of late. That can change in a minute...and will. Everything caught the last two weeks is in depths 10 to 1 foot. But for one flat of 5' to 7' feet that drops off to 25' or better 'Quick'. Have got the bigger fish as of late still close to this deep water. Enjoy you time over..you should catch some.

Fishing with Martyk8 this afternoon. Left out of the Deep end around 3pm heading North into a West..Northwest wind blowing pretty solid. Surface temps 67 to 68 degrees. Water has stained up alittle the past few days. First stop...marked lots of fish...no takers. 2nd stop...made a pass drifting across a point..picked up couple Hybrids. Moved back up and made another pass...several more caught. These were nice ones! MartyK8 says its time to anchor if we can. We got lucky an caught anchor just right. Spent the next 3 hours just working that point with Rattletraps and nailing Hybrids. With the largest being 26" for today. The pictures below are of a few to add to the board. Its was a good day out. At one time we had Potlickers creeping bye...I believe they saw us release'n fish. Just glad they didnt ruin it. headsRtails 26" 7.7# Hybrid headsRtails 25.25" 7.2# Hybrid With the tail spread out martyK8 22.00" Hybrid martyK8 23.25" Hybrid headsRtails 21.50" Hybrid Few more pics from today Leader Board as of 10/23/09 1. headsRtails 26.25" on TNT slab 8:10 am 9/24/09 2. headsRtails 26.00" on Rattletrap 6:25 pm 10/23/09 3. headsRtails 25.25" on Rattletrap 5:40 pm 10/23/09 4. headsRtails 23.75" on TNT slab 7:50 am 9/24/09 5. martyK8--- 23.25" on Rattletrap 5:25 pm 10/23/09 5. martyK8--- 23.25" on Rattletrap 6:30 pm 10/17/09 5. headsRtails 23.25" on BangTail inline spinner 7:00 pm 10/14/09 6. It was sure fun just sitting in one place like we did today and catching all those fish. Like HrT said we got lucky with that anchor catching on the first shot. Its beeen a while since I've been able pull that many Hybrids out of one spot like that. I think its going to be a fun Fall Hybrid season.

I went back and did the best i could to make those picture alittle larger. You can only do so much working with a camera phone. Also to anyone that fishes Palestine. Please post a picture of your Hybrids being measured and get them on this board. The more ... the better this is!

We stayed far enough away because I know they stack up there and if you aren't within 10 feet of either side, you won't catch fish-didn't want to spook your fish. (or whoever was there) We went all over the lake that day and didn't catch a fish. Horse ranch, chimney, saline, etc. I'm in a grey 22ft bluewave, been gone to Salt Lake and Wendover NV, for a week , anxious to get back on the lake. I don't mind anyone approaching me on the lake ( just don't rush in with the big motor ) Has anyone seen any birds working yet ? Should happen soon, sometimes it starts in the back of coves as the cold water moves out the shad towards the main lake. good luck MO

I fished Saturday a.m. but couldn't get on the water till about 10 a.m. due to the starter going out on my motor.
A big shout out and thankyou to the guys at the Boat Center who dropped everything and followed me home and repaired it at my dock and got me going ASAP.
Caught one bass (21") and one crappie. Lots of junk floating in the water. Stopped at noon.

I fished Sat afternoon 3:00pm till about 6:30pm. Found lots of fish on my graph but just couldn't get them to bite. On Sun. HrT and I caught about 10 fish but they were small and we really had to work to get them.

Yes. Most of my fishing has been at night. I have had some fairly good trips the past several weeks with a few bummer nights. I have noticed the hybrids are getting to look a lot healthier. The fish are filling out with some good girths. Heck I might even go tonight if the wind isnt blowing too hard

"grescobia" You have pretty luck chasing Hybrids at night? I can never seem to get them steady after the sun goes down. Though i have done OK in the dark before sunrise.

For anyone who lives on the lake, how high is the water now? Is it getting into boat houses? I'm only there on weekends and am a little concerned about the high water flooding my boathouse.
Thanks for your up to date information.

My dock is 39 inches above spillway and I have about 12 inches of clearance right now. Hopefully it will slow down on the rain.
What part of the lake are you located ? Mo

I have been doing a lot of nite fishing over the past several years and have found several places (mainly lighted docks)that seem to always give up a fish or two. Wehad about nine docks that we usually fish. when I fish in my buddys blue wave with a 200 on the back we can cover a lot of territory so it doesnt take long to see if the fish are biting or not.

HrT, I tried to get out there today. I was putting in at the old ramp in Chimney Cove. Backed her down and saw the ACC switch was on. Uh-oh. I remembered I had a friend over a few weeks ago whose son wanted to get in the boat. He was flipping all of the switches and apparently hit the power button.
Needless to say I was bummed. No power. Tried to jump off of my trolling motor batteries to no avail. I was wanted to try by the horse ranch and around by airport cove area. Maybe next time.

That shallow water bite was on pretty good this afternoon, after we spent a little time finding them. I was afraid after we lost most of our cloud cover the fishing wouldn't be very good but things worked out fine. I noticed now that the water is cooling down the fish have a lot more fight in them. It was a fun afternoon..

YEAH!!!! look at that smile on Marty's face! That must be the one he caught whike I was on the phone with you. Mike you upgraded your phone? those are some nice pictures. I took my boat to The Boat Center in Dogwood City today to install some new electronics and trolling motor, I sprung for the HDS5 w/ Lake Insight and a Minn Kota Riptide 24 volt TM, hopefully they'll have it done by the weekend. Oh and they're going to fix the seat too!
They were much needed but it sure is hard for me to spend that kind of $$$$...ah the joys of boat ownership I guess...

I hate to hear that happen to ya today. There's more days to come...with lots of Hybrids still to be caught! In fact i don't think that 26.25" Hybrid is gonna hold first for long.

Fished yesterday evening. Caught lots of Sandies, Hybrids, and Black Bass. Nothing of any size....had some Hybrids around 22 or 23 inches. There's a Bass tournament going on this weekend with lots of boat traffic on the water.<(Kinda Crazy). Anyway fishing is pretty good.

Went to toledo bend yesterday. The sabine river authority had every gate open at five feet high . Had not seen that much water going down stream in several years. It was impossible to fish as everything was closed to fishing and the roads were closed. If you want to catch a trophy striper just wait till the gates are closed as a lot of fish will be in the river . The main river was up to the highway .Guesstamate water was 20 feet higher than it shoud be. Sure was ,in my opinion , poor planning as they knew the water from up north was eventually coming their way. They could have open the gates about a week ago to ease the the flooding that was going on downstream. Just my opinion. It usually takes 3-4 days for the water around Longview to reach the dam at TB dam. Anyway my fishing buddy and I came back home to fish Palestine at night. We were going to fish for catfish but wound up fishing for hybrids as the first few places yieided several hybrids ,the biggest around 5 lbs, the action was steady at several of our sports. We quit around 11 .

Sounds like alot of water. I have not been to Toledo Bend in years. As a kid we used to go down there camping and crappie fishing. I got out with Iberia yesterday for a couple of hours (2:30 till 5 pm)to test out his new electronics(HDS-5)and trolling motor. We fished alittle...caught 9 I think. The past couple of days there has been alot of traffic on the lake with the FOM Tournament.

Went out this afternoon and did manage to catch one 5.3 lb 22" Hybrid. Ran into sandbasscamp over at lollypop and he was telling me late Sat. afternoon there was lots of schooling action going on there. The water today was just thick with baitfish. caught lots of LMB and small Hybrids.

Is sanbasscamp getting his computer fixed?? I was out yesterday afternoon as well. Trying to find some big blues. Fishing around Smith point, saw tons of baitfish, not much surfacing action.

Hey Marty, I fished yesterday at Lollipop as well. I did not see you there. Luke and I caught eleven fish, 2 sandbass, 3 largemouth, and 6 hybrids. The biggest was around 3 pounds, and we caught it by the 155 bridge. I also saw a ton of bait fish around Lollipop. But we could only manage small fish there.

Its Ledbetter Bay. Lollipop is just a Houseing addition on the west side of the bay. Its sometimes called Lollipop as just a general area of Ledbetter Bay. But keep in mind CNB that doesnt always mean that the fish were caught right in front of Lollipop Houseing.

What several of the oldtimers on Palestine refer to as Lollipop is a large deep flat just south of the mouth of ledbetter, An area of 17-19 ft water surrounded by deeper water. I've caught a lot of fish there, VERY good live bait spot in late spring.

Oh, by the way, I was just minding my business late Sunday , crappie fishing when those pesky hybrids erupted around the boat. I think we are just a few degrees from some big time action. Mo

Fished this afternoon with Marty. Surface temps came up a few degrees to 71-72. First stop on alittle cove we caught a few bass. Then we moved and found sanbasscamp catching fish. That was at the end of a Mid-Day bite. (When i rode by him Saturday he was catching fish) We hung out a bit...then moved up on the shoreline. Picked up some bass and sandbass... Marty got a fat Hybrid around 19" or so. Moved back out on a Hump the last hour. I hooked up with a really nice Hybrid that got lost trying to get it in the boat. Got a good look at it. That makes two Hybrids in the last few days swimming with my baits still in there mouth.

What is the water level like? Two weeks ago I had to go to my lakehouse at hideaway bay and raise the boat almost to the roof to get it clear of the water! Also the water was full of "floaties" (ie weeds sticks etc.)Any higher or clearer?

I heard monday it was on , early in the fog, hybrids on top midlake. I have found them like that before , just have to cut the engine and listen. Very spooky when you can't see the end of your cast. I bought my fist gps just for navigating in the fog. still scary.

Hybrids with Bad Attitudes would sum up this afternoon. Wind out of the North-East with slight chop. Surface temps 67 to 68 degrees. West side of the lake near the Airport. 3 Pm till dark fish were very active from 2 to 18 feet. Just about all Hybrids 3 to 4 lbs. with some up to 6 Lbs. There were better fish lost at the boat with line failure and but of all things a split ring failure. MartyK8 was on fire working a Flitterbait( www.sbt4u.com)He had tricked his out with red hooks and just flat kicked my tail working the same bait with bronze hooks. Marty also lost a big fish at the boat that was hooked on a top water bait(Pencil Popper). Measured one of Marty's Hybrid at 23.75" .... several others like this and better were caught also. Very active and with serious attitudes they were today. Also picked up some nice sandies and Blackbass.... but for the most part Hybrids. Marty's 23.75" Hybrid Flitterbait was the ticket today Caught a few from the bank Sunday evening I'll update the board after tomorrow evening.

Whats left of a Flitterbait after a Big Bully Hybrid yesterday evening. I picked these Flitterbaits up from (Striped Bass Tackle) www.sbt4u.com They are a great bait to work with to cover alot of water and multiple depths. This has been a really Hot bait on Palestine the last few days. I might add that this bait comes with smaller hooks like this-> I like to add red hooks and after yesterday evening alittle bigger split ring.

If you are pulling split rings, there is a little thingy on the side of your reel, What it does is adjust the drag. Now this thing called drag lets the line slip when the fish pulls really hard. Just Kidding great job on the fish , one more cold front and we can expect some epic days. MO

You guys be sure and check Jack's (Fishing Factory) video from today with one of these Hybrids under the (Photos & Video). This young man is a fishman PERIOD. He holds 3 Jr. class records on lake Palestine. I know after we drifted off alittle...everytime I looked over with the binoculars he was catching a fish it seemed.

Dang, Ive been wanting to go, but I hurt my back 4 weeks ago and I still can't untarp the boat and tote the trolling motor and batteries into the boat without wearing myself out! Maybe after this week of therapy I can manage, otherwise I guess it's "vicarious fishing" by reading this thread!

Hey Guys. Those are some nice Hybrids, HeadsRTails. I'm still trying to figure this lake out. I went over to the mouth of Ledbetter Bay a couple of mornings ago. There were a ton of shad on the surface, but nothing chasing them. Have you guy caught any there lately? If not, where the hell are they? I'd like to be able to contribute to your stories. Good Luck and take it easy.

Welcome RBowtie, The area up around Ledbetter Bay was real good the last two weeks of October....then we started to notice it taper off some during the first week of this month. We then noticed that things were picking up between Creers Point and Paradise Point. This area is on the west side of the lake in Blackburn Bay. Other spots to watch are Cherokee point and the area around Bowles Point and cove which is on the East side. Tuesday and Wednesday birds were working in the afternoon on the west side of Blackburn Bay. Also around Cobbs inlet at times is good. These are all good areas to fish for Hybrids. You can catch them all up and down the lake...but i would get to know the South end the best you can. These areas will produce some really nice Hybrids. They have been running bait up on flats or around the edge of flats in the late afternoon. They like deep water near to shallow water. If you have a graph and check these areas i talked about... you will see. Again we welcome any post you have about your hunt for Hybrids or Sandbass on Palestine. Be sure and post a good Hybrid or Hybrids on the board if you can. This whole blog is to help each other and just keep up with whats going on Hybrid and Sandbass wise on Palestine. This lake has some really beautiful and large Hybrids. Its a great lake to learn that can be very rewarding.

I didn't find the Hybrids today, but I found a huge school of 2 to 3 pound blacks that were hitting magics and swim baits real good between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. I hope to find a little bit of everything tomorrow. I'm in a silver Champion with a little Schnauzer on board. Holler at me if you see me. STEVE

I found it slow yesterday , finished with 16 on the counter, mostly sandbass. A few hybrids , up to 8 lbs. I need to get a longer measuring stick. I found fish on most of the good west side spots from the dam to the horsefarm , fish were scattered , no gulls, no topwater action. MO

Hey guys, New to the site. Just got back from a week down at your beautiful lake. Spent the week doing some work around my moms place in shadybrook area. Anyways got some fishing in several days. We had pretty good luck several days around the north point and little island @ leddbetter. Just had to be patient seemed the fish where scattered in little bunches. Caught large sandbass and Hybrids each day. Sunday my brother caught a 25.5" hybrid weighed 6.25 lbs. He had to return to ft. worth monday well not to be outdone tuesday I hooked and boated a 26" hybrid, weighed 6.75 lbs. My brothers hybrid was caught on the silver long minnow shaped TNT using a very radical pumping retrieve.Mine was caught on the purple silver 180 slab normal slabbing action. All fish caught 15 to 22 ft. of water.
Had a very good week on palestine and will return from time to time.

Fished all day, but the hybrids were evasive, and ended up bass fishing. My partner and I caught 71 total with 14 keepers. It was a beautiful day on the water. One more cold front should get them on the school real good I think...

Not much to speak about for today. Things were slow for the most part. It wasnt till the last hour that we really found any Hybrids. We ended up putting several in the boat. Most of them around 20" or 21". Flitterbaits and Rattletraps was the bait of choice for today. I have one picture...its not the best as it was raining. Marty with a Hybrid

I picked up some of those flitterbaits, tiny hooks. How big can you go on replacements without killing the action ? Do they make a bigger size ? I only fished a short time yesterday, lucked into some topwater action, but it only lasted for a few minutes, should have fished instead of watching the cowgirls lose. MO

Mo, I put size 4 on them. Its just a tad bigger or thicker than the original and didnt change the action that i could tell. I think the 1/2 oz. is the only size of the bait. The bait itself is tough as can be...the finish holds up well. Even when the finish does start to wear some....it still has color below the top layer.
I came home think'n the Cowboys won.....only to find out they lost. Kinda surprized me.

The hybrids I have found are still keying in on small bait. they have pretty much ingored a 4in sassy shad , even when surfacing. My best bait for the last two weeks is my old standby in silver or chartruse good luck MO

Same here, we have at times when catching...tried other baits. Have caught very few on soft baits.(Yet) The 1/2oz. Flitterbait and Chrome Traps have been good. Letting them sink....then start and stoping them. TNT slab's have always been good with the 3/4oz. catching the most fish. The bottom 3/4oz. I put the bronze hook on

The hybrids I've been gettin have been hitting swim baits and attacking a pencil popper. When ever there is some surface activity, the popper will call them in. What I have seen is some of the brids chasing big shad. I know the gulls are back, has anybody ahd any help from the feathered flock.

I was out Friday afternoon and saw plenty of gulls flying between the 155 bridge and the HF but they were just looking, never did lock on to anything.
Fishing with HrT yesterday afternoon the lake seemed dead till the rain came and then the last hour before sunset we got into some schooling fish, was fun while it lasted. After this cold front I bet things will pick up.

Some of the biggest I've seen this Fall came off a pencil popper. The birds were working in Blackburn bay last week really good. Swim baits just havn't been good in the areas i've fished them.(Yet)

Cbass-- What part of the lake are you fishing ? I have seen very few gulls, and none working over bait, from the horsefarm to the dam. I've seen topwater action on 3 trips , small bait was jumping each time. It is dark when I get off work these days , so I can only fish 2-3 days per week, MO

Fished Sunday from about 2:30 till dark. fished Ledbetter cove, and the bridge areas first. tried jigs, slabs, jitterbait, only picked up a couple hybrids to 3 lbs, and a small black bass, moved over to Cobb inlet, and nothing doing over there. The rain storm came in and soaked me, so I headed back in. Stopped again in Ledbetter cove, and marked tons of fish. Only managed two on a flitterbait around 3 lbs. Ready for the big bite.

Lets see what two nights in the high 30's will do to the water temp. It was still 67 where I was fishing this weekend. It is almost time , I'm feeling it. MO

Wow, lots of activity here while I was gone. Went to T-wak for a few days and did pretty decent. Caught several whites and hybrids but no stripers. Yall should see the gulls over there, tons of them and we follow them around and pick up 3-4 fish each time we stopped. Had a pretty successful trip thanks to Stripaholic - Thanks for the pointers Trent.
Having a problem w/ my trolling motor, it's tripping the circuit breaker when i crank up the throttle past about 60%. hopefully one day this week I'll be able to take it over to the dealer to get it checked out, i'm praying they don't have to send it in for warranty work already, I've just had it for 2 weeks!
hRt, we need to get out there soon so you can put me on some bigguns again...

Iberia, we are in the same boat(pun intended). My trollin motor(motorguide) on the fritz also. Prop won't turn when foot switch engaged, but directional indicator light on top lights up. Anybody got any ideas I would appreciate the help. If u were to buy a new one:minnkota or motorguide?
Martyk8, was a pleasure to meet you on the water last week. I've only been out a couple more times and fish were consisisent and on time. Just did not stay around as long. There our some biguns that pack. I moved toward the a point closer to the bridge nearer dark and they popped up around the boat as I was trying to figure out trolling motor problems. Flipped a popper and hooked up, then they were gone. Mo, I'm a Lollipopper fo 4 years now. You went by my house a couple weeks ago, hard to miss a grey blue wave(that looks funny in writing if u do not know what a blue wave is) on this lake. I jokingly say ;that I'm the gnome who lives in the dome home. I have been staying close to LB, have not had much reason to run the lake. Usually this time of year I don't travel far. I pick a flat and drift cast large swim baits(7"to 9") and keep a topwater tied on just in case. I also throw a small 5/8 oz blade bait as a search bait much like u would use a tailspinner. cast a mile and two sets of barbs on it. Steady or yo yo retrieve. Of cousre if birds are working that makes it alot easier to locate and catch.

Low 30's on the lake last night , The lake was really steaming this AM , giving up a lot of heat. Should make more bait move out of the shallows , and make the hybrids feel frisky. MO

Surface temp was a steady 64 degrees yesterday. Which is down from the 67 it was a few days ago. It was a much better bite while the Sun was up high yesterday. No surface action at any point around us for the afternoon.
