Yikes!!
That sucks man. I cut the tip of my middle finger off with chef's knife before. Not fun.
Brian, you definitely need to hit up Benbrook. If I can find fish there you can for sure! LOL!

An incident like that on my left index finger while removing a car alarm from my old '91 Camaro. Damn razor knife slipped and tried to fillet my index finger. I grabbed my finger quick when I saw the blade go in and said "Honey, can yah get me a roll of paper towels and go away so you don't panic when I release the pressure off this cut?"
I let it go.. not a single drop of blood. I was surprised.. so I dropped my hands to walk back inside and get a lil' bandaid. Turns out gravity fixed the lack of blood issue. Three stitches and six months till I could make a proper chord on my guitar again.
If you do happen to play guitar as well.. viva las power-chords yo! heh

Fishinaholic, that brings back bad memories. When I was in 4th grade, I had a kid kick a 3' X 7' solid wood school door on my hand. I cut the same finger as you did just at the base of the nail. Cut all the way to the bone and chipped the bone. Took four stiches and I still have the scars.
About 20 years ago I was mowing a side yard that had a about a 3 foot rise and I was pushing the mower up and down. I let it come back a bit too far and hit my left foot. Lucky for me I was wearing hiking boots. It cut a 3" diameter hole in the top of that boot and got my big toe. Cut it to the bone also. Surprising the shock must have took over because I didn't feel a thing until I got to the ER. I felt a lot of pain when they were using that needle to deaden my big toe. Hurt much worse than the lawn mower did.

Dang that hurt! Hey Anthony, don't let anyone tell you to hold the sparkplug while they try to pull start a lawnmower. I did that one once.

I did that also about 7-8 years ago. But on my it cut the whole end off mine, bad enough I was looking for the rest of my finger. My wife asked where the rest of my finger was and I told her that I guess since it was a mulching blade so it was bird food.
fish, It will heal just fine, and also so it will get a real thick clear coat that will cover the wound, My recommendation is to let that clear coat stay on there. I guess its like a protective layer the body does.
hope all goes well
