I told him it was a right of passage. When you become a man you have a couple things that have to happen to you. Some can't be talked about on here but one is definatly the "Look at me I just put my self in the hospitol out of pure stupidity"!

Yikes!!

That sucks man. I cut the tip of my middle finger off with chef's knife before. Not fun.

Brian, you definitely need to hit up Benbrook. If I can find fish there you can for sure! LOL!

An incident like that on my left index finger while removing a car
alarm from my old '91 Camaro. Damn razor knife slipped and tried
to fillet my index finger. I grabbed my finger quick when I saw the
blade go in and said "Honey, can yah get me a roll of paper towels
and go away so you don't panic when I release the pressure off this
cut?"

I let it go.. not a single drop of blood. I was surprised.. so I
dropped my hands to walk back inside and get a lil' bandaid. Turns
out gravity fixed the lack of blood issue. Three stitches and six
months till I could make a proper chord on my guitar again.

If you do happen to play guitar as well.. viva las power-chords
yo! heh

Fishinaholic, that brings back bad memories. When I was in 4th grade, I had a kid kick a 3' X 7' solid wood school door on my hand. I cut the same finger as you did just at the base of the nail. Cut all the way to the bone and chipped the bone. Took four stiches and I still have the scars.

About 20 years ago I was mowing a side yard that had a about a 3 foot rise and I was pushing the mower up and down. I let it come back a bit too far and hit my left foot. Lucky for me I was wearing hiking boots. It cut a 3" diameter hole in the top of that boot and got my big toe. Cut it to the bone also. Surprising the shock must have took over because I didn't feel a thing until I got to the ER. I felt a lot of pain when they were using that needle to deaden my big toe. Hurt much worse than the lawn mower did.

I did that also about 7-8 years ago. But on my it cut the whole end off mine, bad enough I was looking for the rest of my finger.
My wife asked where the rest of my finger was and I told her that I guess since it was a mulching blade so it was bird food.

fish,
It will heal just fine, and also so it will get a real thick clear coat that will cover the wound, My recommendation is to let that clear coat stay on there. I guess its like a protective layer the body does.

hope all goes well

In the history of mankind, there have been two constants:

1. the supremacy of God
2. the perpetual stupidity of man.

no one active on this forum is #1, and every one of us has done a dozen stupid things. If your stupid thing just cost a little skin, then you're lucky. Remember, chicks dig scars. And someday, you can tell your grandkids about how you got that scar defending a troop of girl scouts from an angry grizzly bear in SW Montana. wink

Well... that thing on top of your shoulders is a head, inside is supposed to be a brain. Remember to engage brain next time you are doing something that involves danger. scared I know so many people that have done that and never understood how you could stick your hand underneath a mower deck knowing there is a blade spinning at a fast rate under there. It's meant for CUTTING!

I sure am glad you are ok and your cut is not as bad as some of the horror stories posted here.

You guys, you male people have to start thinking! No, not all chicks dig scars. eeks

It's not only men... I saw my neighbor one day holding the mower down by the handle so the under side was exposed. She had her 6 year old son spinning the blade while she pulled the cord. Now go figure! I ran screaming over there to stop things before there was a terrible incident. violin

Ok, glad you have only minor damage. Man, you could have really messed up your Crappie fishing.

Ah, it's just a flesh wound! An October/November trip to the brickyard with me will test it to see if it's fully healed!

Don't look that bad anthony. I got a van door slammed on my right ring finger back in February. My pain killer? a trip to Hickory Creek for about 100 crappie!

Don't look that bad anthony. I got a van door slammed on my right ring finger back in February. My pain killer? a trip to Hickory Creek for about 100 crappie!

That is my type of pain killer. thumb

Lots of potential for a much worse injury, good thing it wasn't too bad (you weren't defeating the safety-switch on the mower were you? where you let go of the handle it is supposed to stop the engine?)

Now you just have to come up with a better story for your injury, like you were trying to lip the world-record crappie when he bit you, or it was a piranha-crappie hybrid, or something smile

Anthony,

I hope you get better soon!

Safety Tip: next time take off the spark plug wire before sticking your hand under the mower
