Been using bread for bait in the local area ponds. Posted a couple of articles about using bread. Check them out when you get a chance - Fishing With Bread and Fishing Rigs . Surprised at how many decent size Catfish are in the local city ponds.

Nice video! I'm gonna get me a loaf of Mrs. Bairds and head out for our local community pond!

You will catch cats in local ponds on bread.

one word of warning though...

watch your rod. those local ponds are often known for carp, and even a baby (5 lbs or so) will launch your rod into the water faster that you can react.

With the chance of 20 or 30 lb carp in the ponds... well, you can guess the likely outcome.

if you will take a syringe and cut the top off even with the tube where the needle goes and stab it into the bread over and over again until its about 1/2 way full and then press the plunger down and have the cut end against the palm of your hand then push the compressed bread disk out you will have a bread disk that will last a very very long time....in england they use this for carp fishing and call it a bread punch you can also flavor the disk with what ever you like....they catch a ton of fish!

Yeah, pond carp ( and cats ) are used to people feeding the ducks. They love some bread!

When I was a kid we would catch cats in a local pond with bread balls or biscuit dough as well. Had good luck with putting a little vanilla extract on there as well to bring the fish in. Good times for a kid!

The vanilla extract makes sense because the "dead red blood spray" sold by Team Catfish kinda smells like vanilla extract to me.

How funny is this. YES it does work. The other day, I was out at my local pond and a kid was doing this. Catching and catching big cats and carp on bread.

I told the kid that one of my lures that I throw is the cost of his loaf of bread and yes, I have lost a couple of them in the pond. He keeps on catching and catching on his bread having a good ole time. I did catch a 1.5 lb bass and a cat on my lure. The kid 11 or 12 yrs old caught about 5 cats and a carp on bread. He was there again last night during the rain. I will try tonight with my kiddy pole and see what type of fight I can get out of that.
Way to go kid.
Use BREAD if you want cats from your local pond.

I've used bread on Whitney before and caught channels. Just made a ball on a treble.

I will make a bread syringe and try that. I've never fished with bread.

As a teen in Houston, a friend and I used to often sneak on to a local golf course subdivision to fish the ponds and lakes there. There were several 5 acre lakes and at night we'd go over to the lakes with no houses around them and fish.

We used bacon, and caught a lot of cats and bass. I don't know why I have not used it in many years, but this thread got me started thinking about it.

My cousin and I caught more fish than we could count during a few days fishing this pond across from his home in Clovis New Mexico using bread. I didn't have any fishing gear, but saw the pond upon my arrival and promptly went to Wally World and got a Zebco 33 (good in a pinch) and we wore them out. Big carp and catfish, all released of course. We even had to return to Wally World to get heavier line because the carp were too big for that line size and we didn't have enough for them to make long runs (big pond).

Odd thing about Clovis though, we would be sitting in shorts snd short sleeves but if you weren't home before dark, you could see your breath right around sunset. Gets cold quick.
