I was at weatherford today fishing for carp. I had been getting slow bites. All pretty small fish. I figured I would throw for some Sandies that were running within reach. I bet most of you can guess what happened. Yep! My pretty gold Shimano took a swim. That lesson ( that I apparently dont learn) has cost me so much money over the years. Today alone it cost me a Calcuta reel and a Falcon rod. So if you snag a nice rig on Weatherford enjoy her just as I did.

Sounds like an expensive setup to loose. Lets just hope a big one took it.

Not the 200 series. Or at least mine didnt. Worst part is I said out loud " I bet this is a bad idea".

If you need a new reel you get a Swedish made abu 6000 for like $50-$60.

And it has a bait clicker.

I have a bunch of Lews reels with bait clickers. I wasnt intending on carp fishing so I was using my bass gear.

Damn, sorry to hear it!

I learned the hard when that when carp fishing with a reel that doesn't feature any kind of bait runner or "clicker" system....secure it!

Which usually meant I'd put a big rock right on the rod butt lol. Saved my gear many times over the years!

Before that, I'd have to do a "super man" dive right into the water...though I always somehow managed to get my gear back, and often landed the fish, too.

Just ask Donny!

Luckily haven't had to do that for a long time lol.

Loc: a dumpster at white rock lak...
never leave a rod without a string attached to it somehow . i once had a 12 inch channel cat steal my rod right out from under my feet by the time i saw it it was going into the water .i was lucky that i could see about 6 inches of the tip bobbing up and down about 15 yards in front of me . i was able to save it with a treble hook and weight

Almost lost a brand new R&R Friday night. Had them set up pretty high so if something did hit them it would have to pick entire rig up and over the side. Turned around to get a drink and heard it take off caught the end of pole just before going over the side. Had about a 4ft. Longnose on it. Man would have been sick to have just lost that one. I had bought it at Acadamy that morning.
Going to put more rod holders on boat. Have some that come made into boat but they were not pointed to where i wanted to fish lol.

I had my rod pulled in by a catfish last Tuesday. I was able to get it back though. I've had 3 rods pulled in this year by fish. I got all of them back though.

Yeah, if it was a cheap rig I'd had yanked into the water that day Donny saw me dive after it...( Twice ) I might not have done it. But it was a rather expensive Shimano that I'd just gotten for Christmas that year...no way I was letting some carp get away with it!
