sadly, unless you get lucky enough to get a new fishing buddy thats gonna show you some new spots, not many people on here are willing to give up their honey holes or even much information that would even get you close to them. Your best bet is to fins someone with a boat and a fish finder and go get some. Otherwise, go to wal-mart and get a lake map that shows the kind of fish that your likely to catch in the area.

Shallow on Grapevine is the key. They are still biting, but the bite is slow.

You got to understand that most people work hard to find good fishing spots.. When you do find a good spot its tuff giving it up ,to very many people .. Just takes one guys word of mouth to have a big group of boats and or bank guys in your hole.. You are right about getting a map and going from there , if im not familiar with a lake thats exactly what I do.. Through lots of TOW and persistence it will payoff with some decent spots or honey holes.. Put in the time and effort and the fish will come..

Shallow on Grapevine is the key. They are still biting, but the bite is slow. Infamous: Are you fishing under a bobber for cats at GL? If so, what bait are you having the best luck with? I've had the same problem with hangups on rocks in the area he is talking about.

I use shad. I use corks around structure and a carolina rig in the open water. the fish are located all over the lake still. no one really likes to give up the so called honey holes, but we don't mind sharing tips. I hear alot of people are catching channels with dip bait, but that stuff stinks too much for me.

I have been fishing G-vine for a few weeks now. I have tried lots of different places and every type of setup and bait. The only places I have caughta few fish has been drift fishing in the flats by party point late at night. I have been using Caronia rigs with either chicken livers or S7. That’s my story. Any one what to offer any suggestions to help me get on more fish, it would be more than welcome.
Thanks in advance.

this is the biggest tip you are going to get and this is the one that will help you more than any others..........any type of terminal rig you use will be fine with this tip and just about anywhere on the lake that is not below the thermocline will be a good spot...............
SHAD
that is the #1 thing

I have caught a mix of blue and channels in shallow water using punch bait under a slip float, but I haven't caught many stringers full so perhaps I should be listening to Chickenfrie.

I agree with riverrat1973. Maybe throw in some 2.5 to 3 in. bream. Caught a lot of blues on them , too.

Still ain't found the blues, but I'm catching plenty of channels on P/B.Yesterday,I tried live shad, whole dead shad, heads,& fillets but never caught a blue. That was my 3rd trip & I was in about 5-8 ft on a flat.Do I need to try deeper or an area with deeper water close by like a creek?I wanted to do some scouting, but the wind was Killer! Not looking for anybody's honey hole, just would like any tips on what I'm doing wrong, since I haven't even had a bite on shad yet. Thanks again.

Hey 8upwithfishin, keep trying. We drift fished an area on Lewisville about 10 days ago and caught a good string of blues up to 20lbs. This area has been producing good catches for us for over a year. Water there, at current lake level, is 11 to 13 ft. deep over a wide area. Went back there this past fri. and couldn't get a hit at all. Moved to some deeper water with humps and points and managed a few . Lots of shad at both places. We use shad and bream .

I have been doing pretty well on cut shad still shallow. Less that 10ft. Catch a mix between channels and blues. I have not drifted yet, due to the boat traffic. When school starts back up, I will start to drift again. Try drifting near Meadowmere and McPhearson.

Thanks for all the info, so I will try them again.BTW, my previous trip 2 weeks ago, I drifted shad in 20-25ft west of Meadowmere down the south bankline for a couple of hours.NADA.Looks like I've been too deep or too shallow,so I will try that 18-24 ft that tgravley suggested.

Follow-up question because I'm still thinking about what I'm doing wrong. If you are fishing a c/r with a cork on your leader, how far off the bottom should my shad be floating?I know it will probaly vary some depending on the depth. Also, will the bite get better when it starts cooling off? Thanks again.
