I ate at Burger Island in Carrolton today, on Belt Line just off 35E. Really good! Had a Jalapeno bacon cheeseburger. Half pound patty, hand formed, not frozen, all that good stuff. Great, thick cut bacon griddled alongside the burger. Even grilled the jalapeno slices, a nice touch I always like.
Probably not the best in Texas, but still a real solid, tasty burger. Glad you made it there Starless--

I had a very nice surprise when I stopped in Hutchins Yesterday.
If you know Hutchins at all this is a gas station/convenience store in the middle of town, sorry I cant remember the name of the store but there is not another store to confuse it with. Across the street from the police station if this helps.
They have a well manned grill inside so obviously the locals frequent here.
I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger.
VERY generous with bacon, real ground beef patty, the fries were above average also.
This combo cost me around $6.50 with 32 oz drink.
It was just plain a good burger and fries!
Well worth stopping by.

Beefmasters in ballinger makes a mighty good bacon cheeseburger IMO Beefmasters huh? I like the name. Is that a walk-up place, or a sit down restaurant? I remember having fantastic burgers at both a walk-up burger shack, and a sit down BBQ type place in Ballinger before. But that was many years ago, and I don't remember what either of them were called.

Pops Burger in Benbrook on 377 - Take no prisoners how in the He77 am I going to get this thing in my mouth to attack it burger.
Honorable mention. Its not in Texas I don't even know if they still exist from 20 years or so back. NCO academy Korea Camp Jackson "Jackson Burger" They had these monsters on the lunch menu every day. It was a 1 lb burger on a bun that covered up a dinner plate.

I've been told by Life-long Rockwallians that Boots is just novelty. I'm still gonna have to find out for myself.

Alton, I guess it depends on your taste, but I'm a life long Rockwallian, if that's what it's called, and the first time I went to Boots was on a kindergarten nature walk/field trip in 1979. It's as good now as it ever was and I've been a steady customer my entire life. I'm 36 now and I had one just about a week ago. They taste now just like they did in 2001, 1991, and 1981. They're perfect. Maybe not every one in the world likes them but I think it's the best ever made.

I wouldn't show up after 1 because the sell out every day. I'd call ahead too. 972.722.5802. Just tell them you want a double double. If you're on HWY66 going east out of town from the square turn left on Kernodle and go down about two blocks and turn right on Lillian. It'll be on the left. It's in a neighborhood.

Here's my list: DFW: Kincaid - FW store RG Burger - Denton Twisted Root - Dallas Jake's - Dallas Kelly's Eastside - Plano Snuffer's Green Chili burger - Dallas Note: I've not tried Wingfields yet - http://dallas.citysearch.com/profile/9608524/dallas_tx/wingfield_s_breakfast_burger.html ) Texas: Cliff's - Houston ( off fountain view/San Felipe ) Dixie Maid - Atlanta Texas Dirty's - Austin Kincaid's - Fort Worth This has been a personal quest of mine for the past 20 years. I've tried many of the places most people consider "good"; dairyette, keller's, Pappa's, Butcher Boy's, Burger House, to name a few.... Ever tried Oma's Jiffy Burger in Waxahachie? still pretty good with the new owner. Another good one farther south would be Chris madrids in San Antonio get a side of nachos. You could spend a week trying good hamburgers there and enchiladas with margaritas at night. A couple in Fredericksburg, one in Brady. Got my own list too, agree with the old Kincaid and Cliffs, Dirty's? must have hit it on a bad day how long has it been since you were there? Will have to try some others. Seems like we have left a few off

What, no love for Fat Ho Burgers in Waco? I haven't eaten there but from what I've heard the lady has had people lining up 80-90 deep during lunch. (sadly the reviews of the place have been just ok.)

I don't get the love for Fred's and Kincaids. I'd rather have a Whataburger anyday over those two.
Twisted Root and JCs are the best burgers I've had recently.

I think a good burger has a lot to do with how hungry you are at the time, ever notice no matter how good it is, the last bite is never as good as the first......IMO
