As many of you know the days are already getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler. Within about 4 weeks the crappie fishing here on CC and other lakes should change drastically. Even though an 8 trip right now will produce 40-50 keepers. Those numbers will start increasing the closer fall gets & the action will be much faster. The fish will begin to move back into the shallows and become more concentrated again. Also fall, especially late fall is when we see some of our biggest fish of the year. The season starts in September as usual.
Here are some pics from last fall/winter, don’t wait to get on the schedule, it’s going to be a great time catching crappie.

See you guys on the water!

Man I look good in them coveralls! LOL! He's not kidding folks, Chuck will put you on some big fish in the fall (lot's of them too!). We had 3 fish over 15 inches that day, it was cold (early Dec.), but man what a blast! We have been with Chuck 3 times in 2 years and our ability to find crappie on C.C. has improved tremendously! Of course the S.I. has had alot to do with it also, but again, Chuck helped us with that too! You da man Chuck! BTW, Paul Caught a limit yesterday! I had to work. bang

Looks like you need to hire a guide to get some pointers. Chuck is the man and so are Chuck (Guy Skinner) and Cliff Spindle. Those boys are THE best when it comes to guides here in the metromess.....

This is what happens in the fall/winter in East Texas. You get to hang out with all the crappie that wouldn't talk to you all year! thumb

And they come back to the slips in fall; good thing for the boat-challenged.

I like it because it seems like every brush pile in the lake has slabs on it. And, the weather is nice and cool and there is hardly any boat traffic. Nope, I am not picky at all!

Chuck you probally don't remember this thread

10-03-05

Did a little fishing by myself today from about 1pm till 5pm. Started fishing a spot I thought might have a few fish on it and didnt catch any there. Then I went to a point with nothing but a good drop (no brush) that I hadnt tried in a while and began marking bait. I dropped my jig and bam! my first fish. The next 6-8 crappie came very quickly and I knew I was on to something. I stayed in that area and kept working that small point in about 10-14 ft of water and kept picking one up about every 10 minutes. Overall it was a good day. I caught about 15-20 crappie with most of them being keepers. I even had one that should have weighed about 1.8 or so. It was a nice thick black crappie. All these fish were caught casting my jig out and letting it drop all the way to the bottom. I would then very very slowly work it back to the boat. My guess is that each retrieve that didnt catch any fish probably took atleast 2-3 minutes. Slow and patience was the name of the game. Some of the fish thumped the line pretty good but some of the bigger ones would only give me a little pressure, those were the hard ones to get. Any way, good luck if you make it out and give us a report!

going through my journal this morning ran past this report from ya a few years back, it was about 4 or 5 days a front had pushed through when you fished.

come on fall

hey thats cool that you had that. I cant say I remember that trip but it's amazing how things have changed. It's all a matter of perpective. The older and more experienced I get the higher my expectations are. Now if I am fishing the prime season I generally have real high expectations.

Come on Fall. Bardwell is not known for big Crappie but these were caught there last fall, dont remember the actual date but know it was the day the Cowbays got spanked by the St. Louis Rams! Fall Crappie fishing is the best. There was a limit that day the rest were in the cooler. The ones in the middle all over 15 inches.

Chuck....

I was just telling Mr. Skinner the other day about how terrific a guide you are and how well you and your wife run your business.

Guy took my August allowance money...and I've got October booked for a gulf coast red fish trip...so I guess I'll be calling you about September.

I'll be on CC this weekend and will see if i remember anything you taught me.

See you soon

Yep I will be happy for fall as well. It is the time the bigguns come out of their hiding place to play. RR is like most other lakes the crappie go on a feeding frenzy, The big crappie just seem to show up.

Heres is just one of the pics from last September.
