I've fished Boomvang /Nancen twin floaters with several party boat charters.. they usually have a good Tuna Bite.. especially Magnum sized Black Fin. You can normally catch BFT until your arms fall off on an 8oz Diamond Jig.
Most of the time it's gonna be worth it.. but then again it is called Fishing! If you have not drifted chunk baitss, jigged or top water fished for YFT it could be a hard leaning curve. It's best to go the first time on an overnight charter with a group of folks that have experience with the tough YFT bite periods. If the bite is Wide Open anyone can catch them.

I have not personally fished with them, but have heard good reports about their boat and crew. I normally fish those trips with boats like the big e out of freeport or capt john/new buc out of galveston. The private charters are a lot more cost effective if you get a group of six together and split the cost. I do that frequently and find that it makes the "fishing budget" go a lot further. It also helps to have a crew focused on you if you do not have a lot of experience catching tuna, the crews on the head boats are good, don't get me wrong on that, but they also have 30+ fishermen to think about. You can learn a lot on a private charter with an attentive crew..

gees. for that much, I would rather take a party boat trip on one of the big boats. If you get with a private charter, you wont have to deal with goobers fishing for 100# tuna with 30# gear.. Hey Ronnie- what about those "goobers" that are fishing for 30# tuna with 100# gear? LOL never did believe in bringing a BB-gun to and ELEPHANT HUNT

The price of $1,800 isn't bad for 24hrs but if they are running a 36ft boat then they might have a fuel tank that holds around 500gal. If that is the size of the tank then you could be paying any where from $1,500-$1,700 in fuel coast which would be $3,500 for up to 5 people. Which comes out to around $700 per person plus tips, but you would get alot more out of this trip then with a party boat with 20 other people.

Me and my buddies run our own boats. We've found that we don't need to go that far to catch fish. We don't often target tuna but we don't run any farther out than needed to catch what we want. We split fuel and bait costs and usually not bad...maybe $100 each. Beats the heck out of the party boat fiasco.

You need to ask if the boat is buying their fuel retail or at the wholesalers (shrimp boat docks). Last trip I did in may we paid ~$1.90gal for diesel... Just food for thought.

Remember to save those fuel receipts. At the end of the year you should tally up your fuel expenses and the taxes paid and then submit for reimbursement of the taxes. Those fuel taxes are for on highway use. A boat is obviously not that and you are titled to a refund of those taxes. I'll try to find the website that explains how to do it.

Land Pirate, i think that the tax refund is only if you own the boat. You have to prove to the state that you have the boat before they will allow your refund.

Bleach, You are correct. You get reimbursed for fuel used on your boat not somebody else's boat.

anybody ever catch any Tuna at the "Falcon's Nest A-Rig" out of Sargent Tx ? I attempted it for the first time on Saturday/overnight to sunday and only caught snapper and yellowedge Grouper.. However we decided to go out farther to the 1145 wreck in about 974ft of water and instantly started landing Albacore until dark then they just went away..

Don't think you were catching Albacore where you were. May have been blackfin or Bonito. Did ya get any pictures. At least you were catching something.

Yes Sir!! We only landed two and had a couple get bitten off by sharks, but these littile buggers had pectoral fins as long as their body.. I was looking at some Albie pictures and I am 100% certain that these were 3-5 lb Albacore.. cheers from Spring Texas
