Come join us on the banks of White Rock Lake August 15th to learn, socialize and catch some fish. You do not have to be a member of CAG to participate, it is open to everyone. We will be meeting at the Fisher Rd. parking lot at 8am till 6pm. This is not a tournament, but a social event to promote catch and release carp fishing. However I am sure there will be a side pot(s) if you desire to live dangerously wink Come hang out with the LSCB and CAG and lets break the lake record.

So is nobody interested in a fishing social? This is a great place to hang out in a non competitive nature and learn new techniques

I'm definitely interested but after having to cancel at the last minute on the tournament, I don't want to commit yet.

Plus I think this is going to fall on the week where I am going to be responsible for taking my little cousin to Six Flags, a Rangers game, etc.

Hi,

I've been reading these boards for a while now but decided to join today. I've been an amature angler for a few months but I feel that there is a lot more for me to learn and I would love to come out on the 15th.

hey Chris and Jesse,

or shall I say young uncle fester and george lopez (hahaha)...

yeah, we got here just fine... stopped by Carlsbad Caverns in NM on the way here.. pretty awesome stuff, especially seeing some 1 million Mexican freetail bats swirling out of the cave and into the dusky sky at sundown.

anyways, I'm supposed to start work next Monday... and there's this SoCal Carp club derby this Saturday at Big Bear Lake, about 2 hrs away from here... used to go there and snowboard in the winters back when i was a teenager... nice lake, not sure about the carp action there though, but wanted to go out and meet a bunch of the carpers here...

well, have fun at the upcoming WRL fish-in, and you had a couple nice 20s there in your other post Chris... Jeff keeps getting better at hauling them in too.

see ya around! (I'm definitely gonna head back to Emma Long next spring I think... when's the best time you think Chris? late Feb or early March? I really wanna try to hook up with those 50-70 lb buffs! but I don't want it to be freezing cold there to the point where my rod tips gets frozen... geez.

(I heard the water level low is extremely low in Lake Travis due to the drought conditions... hopefully this won't affect Emma later next year in the spring)

i heard they are doing a draw down this year i think so i wont be going there, might be hard to weel around in sand in a weel chair lmao!!!. so i would say anytime between december through march. you gotta tough it out in the tent, i use ceramic heater to keep the chill out and watch dvd's to pass time while waiting for a buff run, or beeps lol.

Hey Jesse,

yeah, the forum is at: http://www.socalcarpclub.com/

I think you might have to simply register in order to see the posts/pictures, but I'm not sure... give it a try. You'll see a familiar face there, pictures of Dave24 who moved to Texas and I think he recently posted up some pics at Grapevine Lake.

anyways, let me know how this Saturday at the fish-in goes...

and Chris.. is the water level gonna be down all year into next spring??? or is it basically just for the summer that they're drawing the water level down, or will it be ok to go back there next spring? thanks...

ok well i may or may not be going now

talked to my pops earlier this evening
and he asked if i would go to his land
out in east tx with him this weekend
and forgetting about the fish in i said yes.
Im gonna try and see if he wants to go
to the fish in, but i may end up going
with the old man to get some father son
time in.

Its in marietta 30 minutes from
Wright Patman Lake. If i end up going
with him i'm taking him fishing there.
Anyone know anything about Wright Patman?

Hi all,

I moved in DFW area about 1 year back from Europe; didn't even know carp fishing is getting popular here until I found this forum.
I'll try to make it on 15 and meet some of you guys.

Regards,
Radu

Welcome aboard Radu. Where are you from? Carp fishing has always been around over here, but obviously not like in Europe.
This forum has been great in getting like minded folks together for some fishing fun..

Thanks alot . Indeed this forum is great for getting together with folks with same hobby.

What I meant was, that I knew bass and catfish were the freshwater fishes most fished for in US, but that was just my opinion...
Anyways, I'm from Romania and back there carp fishing is considered to be "the fishing", especially when going for river varieties. Although, from what I understand, you get much larger captures here.

Thanks again guys. I hope to meet some of you on Saturday.
I somehow thought there will be some Romanians in the forum, carp fishing being such a big deal in my country smile

Now, stupid question: I'm not at all familiar with Whiterock Lake, could you provide more details about the meeting/fishing place? Or should I just look for guys with big rods next to the Fisher Rd parking place? smile

Welcome Radu,

At first i thought you were the CAG member Radu that fishes the ATC every year. There are a couple of Polish teams and all great people. I always get pegged next to them at least one day.

You should see us along the shoreline. The actual address for the parking lot is 3800 W. Lawther. I will definitely have my big rods out and drive a gold toyota 4runner.

Great! I'll try my best to swing by on Saturday, although no fishing for me then. Didn't bring my carp gear from back home, so I'm in the process of putting together new one.
To tell the truth, even back home my gear is pretty rusty, did a lot of pike and walleye fishing lately.. Just got back from home vacation and pike fishing in Danube Delta banana

im back chad , the first 20 minutes i got a run and it turned out to be a catfish about 13 inches ,a little later i got a good run when i set the hook it felt really solid but lost him a couple of seconds into the fight frown kept getting constant single beeps first 2 hours but things never got better . aroung noon i broke to go to 7/11 for ice cold drink and while i was gone a buff was landed on my pole . lol around 130 or so i got a run from the farthest away rod ( i moved to let rick and his kids have a sopot to fish ) i ran and saw the reel running madly . turn out to be a carp about 4 lbs . let see scott got him a buff , kc got him a couple of buffs and a nice soft shell turtle . it was nice meeting grant , and radu .and nice sharing the bank with the others

It was good meeting you guys out there Saturday. I came away with a bad case of tackle envy. Already hitting the BFS website getting ideas. What do you guys think of the basic BFS GSP alarm? Not too expensive and looks functional..

the alarm works great. I know a few people who like them. I'd stay away from the reels though, they fall apart way too easy.

It was good to meet everyone yesterday as well. I had a great time and we even got graced by Zach who came bearing magazines for all. Pics to come........

I had such a case of tackle envy that I hit up the BFS web site and called John. Ordered a rod pod setup with alarms and all the trimmings and got out for a $100 bill. A little better than the $700 offer I got from K.C. lol

Check the BFS website under rod stands and click on the 1097 tripod. That will show you the setup. If interested call John (owner)personally. He has a summer special going on this set-up. 79.95. I got a three pack of line tension swingers to go with the setup. Talking to John will save you a bundle on shipping as he will package everything in one box.

Yep. For a while. Will have to spend money gradually. Still not convinced on spinning tackle. I know it works great, but I had bad experiences with it early in my formative years of fishing. Of course back then we were using sharpened bones as hooks.lol

Yes sir, I am a pro at bird nest removal. Will probably go with some King Kats rods as next purchase. I hear that they are pretty reliable..

No need. Just get some baitcasters with bait clickers. It's basically the same thing as a bait feeder.
