Fished Mon. & Tue. am with good results using Moe's SSS green
slab with chartreuse flies-by-night jig tied above. Both days
found fish out in front of Bass Pro, & on Mon. birds started
working between Bass Pro & the jetty aroun 11 am. Fish were
surfacing Tue. am, but I slabbed under them with good results.

By the way, I was using Varner's "high lift" technique as shown
on his video, & it works great! Fish hit it on the drop, or when
it hits the bottom. Try it!

We hired John last year to show us how to fish slabs and show us different spots on the lake. The best thing he did right off the bat was to set us straight on how to fish a slab. I know it changes throughout the year but I have caught more fish using that technique than I ever would have using the technique I went out there with.

John is a great guy with a vast knowledge of how to fish for sandies and hybrids. I enjoy fishing with him every chance I get. I just wish it was more often. Not only for the fishing but for the fellowship as well. I always have a great time when we get to go out with John.

Can't wait to see the video!

Way to go Doug, fishing in the middle of the week is awesome. Glad someone could get out, sounds like it was fun.

high lift technique? I saw a guy fishing a slab once where he reeled town the line, did a short pop on the rod and a wild high pole jig. pop-full massive set the hook style retrieve- then wait, then repeat.

Is that what you are talking about?

Go to John Varner's post of July 1 & check out the video.
It shows the technique of how he lifts the rod & lets the
slab fall to get fish to hit.
