I've been working at a local Crawfish farm for the past few weeks and I found a new thing that may make a great chum/bait.

Ready for this?? Crawfish bait!! They look like huge range cubes but last for more than 48hrs in the water if nothing eats them. I've been to busy to try them, not to mention the saltwater is keeping the buffs way up the creek.

On the topic of bait... I just remembered I still have a batch of maize in the fridge from about 5 months ago. lol Reckon it stinks? Maybe I can dump it by the pier and get the Alligator to not live under it. lol

I think it must have a lot of fishmeal in them
If it does its very very good you hit the jack pot there

Oh BTW it's called "Land o Lakes Crusty Chunks Crawfish bait"

And yes, we do get a few catfish/Sunfish in the traps (along with a few snakes).

I dont know much about catfish but I do know that fishing a good fishmeal boilie over a bed of fish meal pellets put more very big carp on the bank then anything else and for a very long time to the effect never wheres out particels in my view have a much shorter effect and only on the smaller carp
Carp natural food are mussels schrimps worms so fishy stuff
a good bait with fishmeals in them is a logical choice

Being that they last in the water over 48 hours they should be great for prebaiting campaigns.

yes GG thats a big plus but apart from that your having fun trying new baits and maybe you catch a few catfish but its better then fishing that same old bait over and over again if you do that you never learn much now do you?

Around here that will put more catfish on the bank then carp, at a rate of about 10 - 1 lol.

Looks like a great way to set up for multi day sessions without having to constantly rebait the swim.. The range cubes last only about 3 to 4 hours, hopefully less if the fish are on them.

GG did you ever use crawfish as a lifebait for the gars?
They use them a lot for pike and european catfish
Use a big float as contoler use a big single hook
And hook them in the tail(they swim backwards)
Anjust the lenght of the line under the float so they dont reach snags and the bottum because they hide them selfs

I nver really though of Crawfish as a Gar bait. I guess the smaller ones would eat them if the Catfish did not beat them to it.
