You know, since I work right next to the lake, maybe next time we do this I can go out and chum a little for a few days before we meet. Sure wouldn't hurt would it?

At least you guys had fun, that is all that matters.

you can try prebaiting but if the fish aren't there, they aren't there. This time of year it is tough to catch fish without doing some exploratory work to find the deeper channels and/or water.

We are prebaiting our spot for three days before we fish this weekend. Going to put out 40 pounds of boiled corn and 25 pounds of range. If you don't see new pics posted by us next week you'll know it doesn't help. Also we are fishing the margins... should we be fishing the deep holes instead? I must point out the "Deep" holes are 40-50 feet deep.

Justin,

Are you doing the quarry again?
That should keep the fish there for a while!

Explain "the margins" please.
You mean the drop-off area before it's deep?

seems like prebaiting would at the very least draw them in at night after the water cools a few degrees. I know I've seen what a few handfulls of corn can call up.

Margins - Euro term for "The Shallows", or the area near shore. Which could also mean the area just above the drop off, or even the drop off itself.

Basically, the Europeans have developed a lot of carp fishing techniques designed to catch fish feeding in specific areas far from shore, since their carp are so heavily pressured. They're the number one sportfish over there, after all.

The Margins refers to anywhere that can easily be reached without a long distance cast, as far as I know. Or anywhere that can be fished by "Pole". ( A long multi-sectioned rod that is not cast out, but fished just under the rod tip with a section of elastic. )

Thanks Starless, kinda how I figured.

Makes me think of the shallow cove just south of Lavonia park on Lavon, between the parking area and the dam of the south ramp.
Nice shallow cove with some vegetation shore-side, gently sloping down to the sometimes island and then in a fairly short distance dropping to some of the lakes deepest water in the main body of the lake. The dam and it's rip-rap a short distance away.

I've seen tons of carp here in this cove, at night they are easily coaxed with some chum, and during the spawn they are thick here. Could be the proximity of the shallow and the deep is the lure. Makes sense to me.
