My son has been reading the forum, and he's getting all worked up about us going out for some carp. He's wanting a fish that fights. We are in Frisco, but from what I have been seeing on this forum, it looks like that barge at lake Joe Pool could be a good place for us beginners to latch on. Does that sound right? JP is only about 45 minutes away. There is definitely fishing closer, but I don't mind driving a bit for some good fishing fun.

Also - I see from this forum and a number of different sites related to carp fishing that a lot of you guys make your own bait. Since we are just experimenting with this, I'm not really interested in doing that. Does the bait shop at the barge have bait that works for carp?

Any help / insight will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

right now with it being so hot, i think its gonna be very hard to catch one. i believe you will need a place with deep water. but i could be wrong.

chris is right if you wanna fish up around you but joe pool is my home lake and we are killing them there everyday right now because people feed them everyday there and they dont leave the barge so if you dont mind the drive go there all you need for bait is a couple of loaves of bread ball the white part on your # 6 or 8 hook and let her rip

I was actually surprised when he told me he read it. I had left the forum up on the browser & he got hooked (okay - yeah - the bad pun was intended cry).

We might be giving it a try on Monday. I am actually off on Monday instead of tomorrow, like most places, so I think that could be the time. Earliest we coudl get out there though is about 9:30. Is that too late because of the heat, or do they just keep coming around because people keep feeding them?

And a guy I work with said to make breadballs like you suggested, but pour some sweet soda on them. He said orange soda, but I have seen that Big Red seems to be a popular one on the site.

try lynn creek marina. just fish off the crappie house and cast tword the bridge. use bread. very successful... trust me he will be hooked once he sees his rod slowly bend. i would recremend a XH 6'6 rod. might seem a little heavy but worth it.

it depends on how much the people are feeding them if there is alot of feeding going on then they dont slow down but if the feeding is slow that day just get on the shady side of the crappie house and throw some sweet corn out to bring them in they will come in a little while

Try the lake lewisville barge, early in morning or at night in the shallow water on outside of barge.

that is where i have caught most of my buff and carp at the lewisville barge though, fishing by the "crack" outside where ppl crappie fish, i just flip my line under those old pontoon boats floating in front of the barge and usually catch a fish, it just a pain to sit there with nothing to really stabilize the rods

FriscoEd, I will be at the barge at Joe Pool on Monday, not supposed to be as hot. I would be glad to help out with a little local knowledge and help get that first carp. You do need to get there early. I am usually there by 6am. Bring some white bread and some canned sweet corn. I usually drain a can of sweet corn and put it in a zip lock bag, I then put some vanilla ar strawberry flavoring in the bag and soak the corn overnight. (yummy) I will be working on catching buffalo again.
