I got out dark and early this morning for some barge fishing. I was joined at around 6am by Crago. We had a pretty good day catching 8 carp to about six pounds and 2 buffalo up to 10 pounds. Modesty prevents me from saying who got the biggest buffalo...We also caught numerous other less desirable species, shad, catfish, and perch. Spent the last couple of hours strictly working on the buffalo. We each hooked several but had a hard time getting them all the way in. Got off the water around 2pm. Mr Kleen showed up but could not fish. Good to meet him.

modesty, much appreciated but i was out fished today, ill lay down the pride and say you by far had the biggest buff today, there were some nice ones though i would have like to have at least get a glimps of, but by far the buffalo fishing was the best part of the trip, even if one fish can cause so much destruction between three poles, nice fish today Curt

What do you use to catch buffalo. My wife loves to eat them, but I've never fished for them.

You can catch a ton of them on sweet corn. They are often very light biters though, and this time of year they seek out deeper, cooler water.

I was using a dough bait that I make and Crago was using white bread... You have to use a small amount of bait due to the size of their mouths. You can get bites on larger baits, but they will only be sucking on the bait and you will not be able to get hooks into them.

Starless Dragon is absolutely right about the buffalo moving to cooler waters. We were fishing the shady area right next to the building structure by dropping the baits straight to the bottom in 10 to 12 foot of water...
