That is AWESOME! Can you imagine that on one of those little ice fishing rods? Let alone pulled in by hand like they did.
I'd say they were very lucky it was winter so the fish was super sluggish. If they tried hand lining a carp that size in summer, they might have lost a finger LOL.

wow, I thought they fished thru little bitty holes Depends what they're fishing for. You're not pulling a 40lb northern through a tiny hole, even though they are skinny fish lol. Says they had to do a lot of chiseling to get that carp through though lol.

I nearly lost a finger recently to a combination of 12 lb. mono, freelined bread, and a careless finger hooked around the line. Gave me a very deep "paper cut". And holy [censored], that thing is a pig. Makes Scott Osmond's famous ice carp from last winter look puny.

Beast of a Fish!
I had to Hand Line a 31# Carp when my Dad backlashed a baitrunner when he set the hook without engaging the drag. It made runs and I had to feed it line- My hands were pretty well cut up when we got done.

Hmmm...I think I hand-lined a fish of yours one time, Justin. I may have done one for Mike, too. Oh yeah! I'd forgotten all about that. It was at Emma wasn't it? When the water was way down, and we were all wading in the mud. I had a fish on all three lines at once, and two of them got tangled together, and one got snagged. So I put the one in the snag back down and turned the bait runner back on, and we tried to untangle the other two, and you decided to just pull one of the fish in by hand lmao. I seem to remember it burnt your hand pretty good, but every time it ran after that you just let go lol. I think alcohol may have been involved. But hey, we landed all three fish in the end anyway! And I'm pretty sure there is a picture somewhere of both of us holding that fish since it took team work to land lol. Awesometown. You need to get back down there with us this fall.

I think it was one of these two. It was cold that weekend but we hauled some fish! Teamwork fish: I think you're just displaying the dorsal here, but this might have been the team work fish too: Then again....

We will see if I can make it in the fall. I definitely miss getting out with everybody.
