Can I get some info on how to rig up for carp? weight/no weight and size of hooks as well as line on reels. Thanks in advance.

Carolina rig, 1/2-oz sinker (or so), 12-inch leader, size-6 hook. Bass gear works fine; line test can be 6 pounds up to 20 or more. Use a rod holder and lighten your drag.

I wouldnt use 6lbs. 12lbs and up is better.

True. 12 and up is better, but 6 can work if you already have it on your reel.

My son caught a 17lb on 6 pound line with a medium action rod and spinning reel. It can be much more fun using light line, but you have to be good . He used the drag and the reverse and played him for about 20 minutes.

I prefer the light line too, hehe. I love carping on 6lb test, especially in local ponds. Work the fish!

What kind of bait would you use to fish for carp? Is there some sort of lure that works on them as well? There is a place I have been going for years where I can see them but they never hit on what I am using... but I have never really been there for them. I usually use rooster tails and they are definately not interested; but the catfish and small mouth bass are.

The best simple bait is sweet corn. Buy a can of cheap, store-brand sweet corn, pour the juice into the water, toss a few handfuls of corn into the water where you're going to fish, put two or three kernels on your size-6 single hook (not treble), cast out and hold on. Every 15 minutes or so (or after you catch a fish), toss a few more kernels into the water.

Carp are occasionally caught on lures, but usually it's an accident. Stick with food baits. Bread pinched onto the hook works well, too. The rule of thumb is that if your dog or a chicken will eat it, carp will probably eat it, too.
