It was a slaughter. Two limits of crappie, 2 limits of cull bass, and 4 nice channel cats thrown in fer good measure. Don't let anyone tell you Alan Henry doesn't have crappie. smile

Crappie were caught on Slab Me Silly jigs, yum soft jigs (cream), spider and creature jigs(black/chart), and minnows. Channel cats were caught on DK and minnows.

Funny story of how we ended up on these fish. First we go to our normal starting points, looking on the fishfinder and can't find anything. Ended up driving all over the place looking for fish.

Nothing. So I'm scratching my head wondering where the heck all the fish have went. Anyway we run down to Rocky and hit Red Branch. I found a point I just knew would have tons of fish.

I look on the fish finder, like 3....I start to look at my settings on the fishfinder...my sensitivity was turned all the way down for some reason. Cranked that puppy up and presto! Instant fish..LOL

Congrats on a great bunch of fish flehan. Did you fish all night. As Radtexan said we also had a fair night on the lake & Westtxfisherman got a nice 4 1/2# LMB on an ultra lite setup. On Saturday afternoon the lake was full of party boats & nearly as loaded with Game Wardens. They never bothered to stop & check us but it looked like they were having a busy afternoon/evening.

Nice AH reports. I may have to bring my boat home from Ivey. Well Roger find the bait and the fish are usually close by. We used to get that kind of bait all the time at Ivey. But not so much the last few years. Those crappie can grow pretty quick with that kind of buffet. Good job guys.

We fished from about 10-5:30 (for crappie). I always like to hit the topwater for bass at sunset and sunrise. I have no idea how many short fish we caught....it was a lot, haha. We saw 3 different game warden boats out that day. They didn't check us but we had everything in order just in case anyway. My fishing partner said that they gave us a pretty good once over, but I must have had my back turned. We always wear our PFDs so they probably figured we had our carp together. I saw them giving a few people hell though, I'm sure they deserved it. I was sort of hoping they would stop us so I could meet some of the guys that work around here. I've lived here 5 years now and Ive met one game warden at the little playa lake by my house. He was cool as hell too. I've talked to Benji on the phone but never got to meet him in person.

Anyway, we got to the lake around 4:00 PM and we had to wait in line to get the boat on the water. Once we got underway and started cruising by our normal haunts, I had this sinking feeling the night was going to suck. Luckily that sinking feeling turned out to be stupidity. Once I got the sensitivity turned back up on the sonar, we were in business.

I had been having what I considered to be good nights at my usual spots. I had been catching like 12-13 keeper crappie two other times this week, fishing solo. One night of that, I caught a slew of monster crappie. It seemed like they were all pushing two pounds, 13-14 inches long...Anyway, I ain't complaining about catching 10"ers if they bite like this! We had out two green lights and a white light. We were covered in baitfish too.

My neighbor (my fishing partner in the picture) got a crash course in fish cleaning Sunday morning. LOL he took to it like a fish to water so to speak. Luckily I had two electric cleaning knives and he did a really good job cleaning. We knocked it out in no time. Looks like it's going to be a good fish-fry for the 4th.

Great report Raider !!

We normally get some huge bait balls at night and most of the time they are in the 5-7" range.Close to 4 am the shad turned to 1 1/2-2 " size.Once the boys figured out how to net some, game was on.Id bet over 60 fish were caught on the small shad in an hour to hour and a half time frame, even close to sun up and shortly after..

Now,how to find the small shad when we get there confused

I had been fishing with small shad on my solo trips. From my experience, I can't keep up with the fish, when I fish with baby shad. I literally cant keep the line in the water. I seem to pull in a million dinks. So I just started using 3" bass minnows so I can actually "relax" a little bit, haha. I'm only good for so much net throwing because of my back. We pulled the cast net out Saturday night but we never threw it. I did get a chuckle out him trying to catch some of the larger shad with our fishing net. I told my fishing partner that if he wanted to catch a thousand fish in one night he needs to get good throwing that cast net. I gave him one of my spares to practice with in the backyard. Hopefully next time we go out, he can catch the shad and I'll catch the fish, lol. I'll have to post a picture of the big 6 inch shad I caught on a Slab Me Silly jig the other night. LOL I foul hooked him in the eye, but he fought harder than any of the crappie did that night.

Some more random pictures.

Gabrial's big crappie of the night. We lost a few more about this size right at the boat. We busted out the net after that.

My "new" to me CC.

bannana2 bouncy bannana2 Looks like everyone did well this past weekend. My partner Roy and I went down on Friday night. Fished for three hours and took home 15. Six were the standard just over 10, but the rest were all from 11 to over 17. Crappie are good right now for sure.

Mine came on custom jigs with crappie nibbles and gulp. Under the green lights from about 15' down.
