I have to admit... it kinda looks damn good. Pretty awesome, yeah. The price tag took me aback a little, but man, yeah, I think it'd be a fun tow vehicle for a boat that's not too heavy.

Any of ya had the chance to tow a little with this thing? The added length to the wheelbase really has to help the handling a little even if I think the oomph woulda been a lot better if they'd kept the 4.0 in there.

For 30k I would buy a big truck. It would be more fun than a jeep. If I wanted a jeep I would get one of the two door versions.

That's a pretty sharp looking Jeep. This is coming from a guy that drives an FJ, but I have to say I still would choose my FJ first than the Jeep a close second.

What are you planning on towing with it? I would spend that amount of cash on a vehicle with some 'real' tow capacity instead (I am not a heap/jeep guy though)... 3500lbs is not much but it depends entirely on your application.

I can't believe Toyota tarnished the 'FJ' history with that contraption. 'FJ' should be reserved for functional/proven vehicles (FJ40, FJ45, FJ55, FJ60, FJ62, etc) not an FJCruiser.

Actually, how does your FJ tow? I love that truck... and yeah, I was really disappointed when Toyota came out with that design, especially since I used to own a '78 FJ40 and I didn't think yota did the best job of designing its exterior... but honestly, the truck's starting to grow on me a little.

You can buy a 09 truck in the low 20,000. and not worry about towing.new and warranty too.

I love Jeeps...but they are not tow vehicles. If you live a couple blocks from your fishing hole, fine. But if you plan to tow all over the great state of Texas, I'd buy something else.

The FJ tows great. Has great power, torque and a smooth V6. The looks have to grow on some people, but I loved it ever since it came out. Everyone has there own taste. Blind spots are a killer. Once you get use to it, it's not a problem though.

Comparing this to classic FJ's is like apples to oranges to me, not much but the name. This has the be the most off road capable Toyota ever built, more than any other Toyotas. Toyota makes many different versions of Land Cruiser chassis and this one sits on a shorten Prado/GX470/4runner frame. Of course with a short wheel base you don't typically want to tow anything over 25 feet. IMO, if anyone thinks this current FJ is not as capable as the previous FJ's than you haven't been in the current one. Don't get me wrong I love all 4x4 Toyota's and respect people's opinion, but they built a true off road capable vehicle. A-TRAC is just like having front lockers and the need of the rear locker isn't even needed but nice to have. Drive one and you won't be disappointed.

I personally don't have anything that long that I tow, but was looking at travel trailers. A few people on a FJ forum tow trailers that long, of course with all the safety equipment. I tow a tractor that weighs 6000 lbs on a 16ft flat bed that has weight distribution hitch with no problems. I wouldn't have a problem pulling a 20' bass boat or ski.

The weight distribution hitch makes the difference. If not, than it would sit on it's bump stops. But if your wondering about the power, it has plenty of it. I'll admit it is overkill for the FJ and I would love to have something larger to pull my trailer, but I have to use what I got. Mine is a 6 speed manual and all wheel drive like the FJ 80's to current. Check out some You Tube videos, it'll make you want one. You can't beat a Toyota when it comes to a 4x4 in my opinion. Hmm, well, I had a manual '00 Tacoma with the 3.4, 4x4 and I sold it after having it for a little less than a year. It towed my basscat classic surprisingly well but I just wanted a bigger truck and it got tiring needing to do 4x4 alignment every time I took it offroad. Even though I wouldn't really pound it offroad - mostly mud/dirt trails, that'd really get the alignment out of whack almost every time...

Unfortunately that is the downside to independent front suspension compared to a solid axle, you have camber adjustments. Just about all 4x4's with IFS will need an alignment every now in then, depending on your driving habits. Solid axles, if I'm correct, only have toe and caster to worry about. My first "Cruiser" was a 1991 FJ80 and I loved it. They didn't call it the comfy cruiser for nothing. They have solid axles and rode great. It went everywhere, but short distances because it use so much fuel. As for being the best 4x4 comment, I meant it will never let you down, again my personal opinion.

Yeah, but I also had two IFS chevy trucks, a '92 z71 that I put a 4" lift on/33's and a '97 Sierra and took those trucks off road three-four more times than I did the tacoma and those trucks never really got out of whack the way the tacoma did. But yeah, that was a really smooth running truck.

I might pick up a '97 4runner with the 3.4 and TRD supercharger. It's got 146k on it, but it drives and handles like it's got half of that on it. Whatcha think? That supercharger's pretty cool. You can definitely tell the difference between a stock 3.4 and that motor.

The 3.4L is a pretty popular swap for the 2nd gen 4runners because of the power and fuel efficiency, add a supercharger = more fun. They can tow quite a bit, especially supercharged. The 3rd gens are nice. Mileage is not to much of a concern to me on most Toyota suv's and trucks. They can take a lot of abuse, but everything has it's limits. As long as the previous owner did regular maintenance, it should run for a long time.

I've owned a '91 Land Cruiser with over 250k, my '88 4x4 pick-up has over 300k miles, and a '94 4runner with 200k+. You can see why I am bias toward Toyotas. Not to much of a GM fan since I worked for an auto parts store for 6 years and sold mostly GM parts, no exaggeration. I'm not trying to bash GM products, just stating a fact. #1 GM suspension part I sold were ball joints, #2 control arm bushings and the list can go on. Rarely did I sell suspension parts for Toyota trucks/suvs. My pickup still has most of the original suspension up front except the tie rod ends, which surprises me since that truck has been beat up so many times off-roading. Jeep = junk

I passed on the 4runner... gonna be picking up a well maintained 2002 Tundra with the 3.4, 4x4 and 84k on it this monday. After thinking about it, yup, the 4runner I was interested in was definitely a great looking truck, but it just had too many miles on it and that supercharger... ah, as peppy as that truck was with it, I'd just have added maintenance (and possibly problems) to worry about it.

I'm gonna be happy with the tundra - that 3.4's definitely good enough to pull my single axle 'cat around and I'll be satisfied wit getting 19-22 mpg out of it for the next 300k miles...

my buddy had a jeep that we used to tow jet skis with no wait we used to have jets skis that towed my buddys jeep

jeeps are awesome but tow horrible you will be all over the road even worse in some texas wind i think its a bad idea only using jet skis as an example
