i recently found my grandpas old 6000 and was wondering if i could use it to surf fish when i go to Galveston when i go there next week? the only other reels i have are a mega cast from bass pro.

i had a 6ft bull shark on a 5000 once. it was an epic battle until i horsed him and pulled the hooks. shoulda had a 6000.

you should be good for any redfish and anything smaller.

wash the saltwater out of it after youre done fishing each time. it will make a mess out of them in a hurry. i soak mine in the sink.

nice, i hope i can catch a smaller shark. i am a bass man myself. but i want to do some bigger fishing were you surf, jetty, or pier? what kind of rod did you use?

If it's been in storage for awhile, be sure to clean it and oil it before you go down there as well -- just to make sure everything is working smoothly.

i live here in galveston that reel will work on surf or pier thats what i have on most of mine.i have landed 50 pound bull reds and a 100 pound sting ray.it will catch any thing you want to catch.
