took my 11 year old daughters out to joe pool yesterday. mostly they wanted to swim and play. they did however want to fish for about an hour. water temp. 81 degrees, all fish caught and released out in front of lynn creek, on chartruse and chrome crankbaits (Model A's) trolled @ 3 mph in 35 to 20 feet water. 18 sandies and 2 LMB. they had fun, good luck to everyone.

Great report! I don't do much trolling, but I know it's a great way to cover water. Are you flatlining the lures or using downriggers? Bomber "A"---the 6A or another? Is your boat equipped with rod holders or do you hand hold while trolling?

Would love to take my grandson out for some of that action.

Thanks

Wayne

yes have down riggers, but don't use them for trolling for sandies. rod holders, (6-A) size bombers they dive 6 to 10 feet depending on what lbs. test line you use (i use 6-8) on lakes where there are no hybrids or stripers.

Thanks much----don't have the rod holders, but I think I can get my grandson to "deathgrip" the rod while we troll! We'll probably get out Friday afternoon. i'll let you know how we do.

Cool! I hit the Pool every now and then. I'm not trying to be a smart elic on this question, but.......How many of the 18 were keepers? Last week we fished over there and caught well over 100, but had maybe 15 keepers. And they were just barely 10".

Are there any gooduns' over there?

same thing you're talking about

fished a week and a half ago for 5 hours with 3 of my buddies, we caught 125 + fish with 1 out of 5 a "legal" keeper, but they were by no means something we actually kept all were released. lots of little dinks. never kept anything out of joe pool, everything released, but my kids sure do like to catch them though... LOL ... looking forward to tawakoni saturday, it's my favorite lake in texas. thanks, clete

I did notice something on Pool that just blew my mind. 82 feet deep water in one spot I came across. I had to stop and do a double take! They oughta sneak in some hybrid over there.....Lots of good deep drop offs in that little lake for sure!

I've fished Pool regularly since it opened (mostly for black bass) and it has the reputation as a small fish lake. I've taken hundreds of fish over the years over the slot. My three best were just shy of nine pounds. Still, every season it's the same thing--you cach about five dinks for each decent fish. This is strictly black bass fishing. Interesting that Hydra Sport has exactly the same ratio for white bass.

I've heard biologists opine that Joe Pool just in not "fertile" enough a lake to support a larger big fish population. I don't know, but it is a fun lake to fish. I release all fish anyway, including crappie.

I have fished Joe Pool for a little over 2 years, and I too have noticed a trend in fish being small, especially the fish feeding on the surface. Last year the best time of the year for me to catch keeper sandbass was about midway through June until around the end of July. I would say 98% of the keepers were caught in deep (20-35) water slabing. Ever now and then I would find a keeper mixed in with surfacing fish.
